Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to adapt popular maps from notable RTS's? An example would be like Lost Temple from Starcraft.
It's been considered rather heavily in the past. Keef considered making Big Game Hunters, and I later considered teaming up with him to do it. Didn't seem like there was a whole lot of enthusiasm from the community. Seems they're more interested in original maps, rather than adaptations from other games. Come to think of it, as I recall my StarCraft decade, I don't remember Lost Temple being very popular at all - I hardly ever saw any games created with it. If anyone is fresh out of ideas, looking to classic RTSs for map concepts isn't a bad idea though.
how about one of those 'fastest possible' maps in starcraft? or would it be too plain and linear... :p
Waaaaaaay to open. Remember, in RTS's units normally have range limits imposed that don't make any real sense, they're just there to balance. In Empires, pretty much any tank weapon (and the gren's stuff) can be used at pretty much any distance.
there was a joke about making de_dust2 into a empires rats map. That sounded like a funny idea. I can't think of any RTS maps that would suit empires, just because empires plays out differently.
Seton's clutch from Supcom would be nice. (With some changes, like bridges to the little islands.) that map was always cool.
There are some really good Starcraft melee maps that aren't just open plains and would pose few balance issues (Starcraft is king when it comes to balance). Like Lost Temple: Three Kingdoms: Gauntlet: I don't want to stretch this post on too long, but this list goes on pretty far.
