Hi. I just installed 2.2 but there is no mapsrc/ included, e.g. no empires.fgd. Also, what game executable etc. do we have to use now? The compile tools are the ones under sourcesdk/bin/orangebox/bin/, right? Maybe someone can update the empires wiki mappers section.
Hmmmmm, that is odd. I uploaded the empires.fgd from the testing versions here or here (Thanks, Arklansman) if you'd like to use that. You got the right compile tools, but I'm not sure which executable is correct. I've just been using the HL2:DM one (seems to work for me). Edit: Sorry for the fail link but this should work (I tested it) Double Edit: Ok, this is my Hammer setup for 2.2 mapping (to make it easier). Please note I had to manually create two directories (/mapsrc and /mapsrc/fgd) in the $SteamDir\steamapps\SourceMods\Empires directory and I placed my empires.fgd in the $SteamDir\steamapps\SourceMods\Empires\mapsrc\fgd directory Game Data Files: $SteamDir\steamapps\SourceMods\Empires\mapsrc\fgd\empires.fgd $SteamDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\base.fgd $SteamDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\halflife2.fgd Game Executable Directory: $SteamUserDir\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2 Game Directory: $SteamDir\steamapps\SourceMods\Empires Hammer VMF Directory: $SteamDir\steamapps\SourceMods\Empires\mapsrc Game Executable: $SteamUserDir\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2.exe BSP Executable: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe VIS Executable: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vvis.exe RAD Executable: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vrad.exe Place compiled maps in this directory before running the game: $SteamDir\steamapps\SourceMods\Empires\maps After you restart Source SDK you should be able to select this
Thanks, I'll try it. *edit* Warning, the link states it links to the fgd itself but actually you will download a html file with the name empires.fgd when you right-click-save it. Crashed hammer 3 times when I tried to include it in the configuration.
Also remember the func_viscluster entity that is new in the OB engine. And If you ned help compiling vvis, mpi is now included in the OB engine tools, you might find help to compile your vvis with the netcompiler in irc.
My apologies for removing mapsrc, I was going to upload the fgd today, but, since Scardybob did it, I'll just use that link :D
I used to map a little for CS a couple of years ago and figured i should try some Empires mapping now when version 2.2 is out. Naturally i have to relearn anything but that's not gonna be a problem. I notice in the config you guys are using that you use the HL2DM executable. Should this not point to a Source2007 executable instead, if you want to take advantage of new engine features?
It should be pointing at the Source 2007 exe. But it really only affects hammer's ability to launch the game to test your map. Which is a feature I never use, since it's a major time saver to just leave the game running, and reload the map right after compiling it
Thats because this thread is wrong. Its pointing to an old exe for an old engine. I updated that wiki page to the correct one already.
I know the executable directory is wrong, but this one also has 2 additional locations in the Game Data files that the Wiki one doesn't have. Which is correct?
Solokiller removed the 2 extra FGDs from the wiki because you don't need to include them. It was all Grizzly's fault that the three were there in the first place :p.
