    XSI ftw.
The big advantage is that Valve supports it with tutorials and so on.

Blender seems pretty good. Then export the model with Colada to XSI and export it there for HL2 that should be a good workflow. But I haven't tried it yet because I still have to learn some more Blender.

Blender has one of the most ugly looking interfaces ever made on this planet, but it's for sure a fine piece of software. And its free.

Blender's interface is not only ugly, but it's a nonsensical mess.

A problem that XSI doesn't have BTW. I have never tried Blender, could someone please post its advantages over XSI? Note that "it's free" doesn't count, because XSI Mod Tool is free as well.

No seriously it just looks ugly, but I think it's a very good Interface if you have worked enough with it. I mean the hotkey system is awesome.

Another feature: Its being actively worked on. The last release of that mod tool was 2007.

I use 3ds max, it has a steep learning curve but its worth it in the end.
