Just finished beta2 of dune. Download Here Changes: * More cover for bases, starting locations changed * More / bigger hills so you don't have quite as much map access while driving * Ruins and rocks added for cover * Extra refinery added * Tweaked fog, light and changed skybox Hopefully this will play a bit better than b1 because it will be easier to set a safe base up, and teams start further apart. The ruins and rocks textures don't quite feel right to me, I will probably make a set of custom textures for b3 as I'm getting sick of these ones. Massive Thanks to Porthos for help and advice, especially for building cubemaps and taking a shot for my overhead so I could actually release this.
there is quite an obvious seam between 3dskybox and the actual map. looks really nice though. impressive.
Yeah you don't notice it in game too much... You shouldn't be looking out the sides anyway, you should be getting mad air in 3phase jeeps Anyway for people who have played this Id like to know how you like the new BE base placement, and if you think it's balanced. BE lost almost every game I played in B1, i'd like to know how it is split in B2. Someone mentioned that the model shadows look yellow, this is a lighting issue I forgot to fix, not a big deal but something that will be fixed for b3.
it needs fixing, runs but has one hideous glaring texture mismatch. hopefully the mapper can touch it up, and re-release for 2.2 as ppl DO like it. if not, i hope he'll send out the vmf to me to recomp for ppl to continue enjoying it.
yeh... i dontget texture mismatch when using Dx7 I dont think this would play so good in 2.2 because of the hills, engines struggle a lot more on hills than in 2.12 so it might not be so fun to drive on. I will dig up the VMF tomorow if you want to work on it bitchslap, but for all the people in server who have said it sucks, and all the games that didnt last 5 mins cos teams dont know how to defend, I dunno if its worth it.
its worth it to me, i can easily tone down the hills and add a few more 'obstacles' that provide 'cover'
1. i like quotes 2. to differentiate between real obstacles and cover that are not terrain based. EDIT: here's the screenie of the ''''''oddity''''''
