Is it possible to get on top of some of the hills? If so, I'm gonna enjoy scouting around and sniping the brains out of people!
since noone else has raised it - have you does all of the vis optimisation stuff with horizontal hints and nodraw brushes inside the displacements?
Most mountains, yes. Some mountains you will not be able to get to as they would break the balance, as in, all the mountains right next to the skybox and the mountains right at each base. Ummmmmm... no.
you may want to have a look here then http://forums.empiresmod.com/showthread.php?t=3302 basically depending on the shape of your map, theres a few things that need doing to make sure models arent rendered where they dont need to be (how much its needed may depend on if you have a close no-draw distance on the fog). Displacements dont block the vvis thing that runs, so as far as source is concerned, you can see everything on the other side of that mountain there. If you put a big blocky brush inside the hill (using nodraw texture to save a couple of polygons) then this can separate areas. However, clever old vvis will look at the areas which the map is split into and check whether they can see into each other - and it doesnt have a vertical limit meaning that despite the big nodraw brush inside the mountain, the areas each side can see into each other (because they both go up to the skybox and so are taller than the mountain) and everything gets drawn. to combat that you put a hint brush across at the height of the top of the nodraw brushes, it cuts the vis areas into better shapes and everything works a bit better. thats an awful explaination - and besides if there isnt a problem then it may not be worth the effort. the thread i linked to has better explainations and more importantly, diagrams

Yar, i got stuck in a hole next directly across from the front door of that random house. Waterfall needs new textures. As said on JPL, map needs more enmities. Sandbag bunkers, lookout towers, ruins.
I've only seen it for 2 minutes before people used rockthevote, but i'll probably get some more feedback later. I only had 3 problems: http://users.telenet.be/samhannes/mapping/emp_smokies/ Screen1: Skybox visible through the mountains because the map gets cut of Solution: Have a brush in the 3d skybox following the exact same shape as the mountains (were the map touches the skybox), so that when the map get's cut of, the brush in the 3d skybox gets covered with fog like the mountains in the map and you can't see the skybox texture. I think it was haschteswas who made me aware of this in my own map ages ago. Also i didn't have a minimap. Are you sure the minimap files have been added to the .res file? Screen 2 en 3: missing texture I really like the atmosphere of the map. Too bad i didn't have the minimap so i wasn't able to see how it looked from above.
Yeah thank cyber for that. And as for the skybox, it's something that's causing me to scratch my head. The z-clip in the skybox doesn't seem to be working very well (at all)
I have the same problem with the league map, Z clip causes the fog to be rendered behind it, instead of infront of it. It's one of VALVe's updates that caused it.
