I know it's fun to have 15 heavy tanks with dual HE against 15 9-mining grens. But sadly the NF only win this map about 10% of the time. BE is literally not punished for randomly charging in and killing everything on site with their big death tanks. Infinite resources and infinite tickets. Just finished up a 16v16, and it was a fucking joke round, with even BE admitting that it was completely unbalanced. Reimplimenting heavies was a bad idea, and while NF used to win slightly more than BE, now it is absolutely no contest. tl;dr read the title EDIT: Actually, to make this thread a discussion-friendly area so it won't get deleted, does anyone out there feel like the map is balanced right now? Genuinely curious. And what do you feel needs to be changed to make it more balanced, so that the winner is based on skill and merit?
Escort hasn't been changed in a long time. Heavies were never ever removed, you just got used to playing the Alt5 version. Also, NF are only meant to win around 20% of the time anyway, they're not meant to win 50% of the time.
True, VIPER just put it back in rotation I guess. I'll ask Vicki to change it back. Sorry everyone, wrong place. Although the fact that somebody thought this was a good idea at one point in time seriously worries me.
It's like people don't realize that Escort hasn't been touched in a few years Anyway, alt5 was removed from Viper on an account of being exploitable as fuck. Which isn't to say that current escort isn't exploitable either, but it's less exploitable.
Can someone respectable conduct some research and check who wins escort more? Also including player counts, Extrems being on BE, and how many tickets they have at the end. And whatever other suitable variables too. Because I swear that I've seen NF win more rounds than BE even with the heavies. Alternative: remove escort completely from rotation.
Seriously? I bring this up EVERY TIME I play escort. Escort isn't designed to be fair. It's not designed to be remotely fair. It should have a 10% - 20% winrate for NF, at best.
Ok, so maybe that was a legacy design goal. I'm acknowledging that. Can we adjust the design goals of the map to more consistently match the design goals of other maps and therefore more closely match player expectations?
Why revert the map when the version is made by a sexyass mapper? If you want heavies removed, just edit the .cfg?
Vicki tried that, didn't work. See, the fundamental problem here is the idea that escort can be balanced. It can't. It's impossible. Because every time the scripts change to make vehicles more or less effective against infantry, the map would have to be rebalanced. Ten bucks says that the new skill system would completely fuck over escort because of the sheer amount of points NF would have, allowing them to crush the shit out of BE. To change the design goal to be a balanced map is a pipe dream.
Just lower the resources. A few heavy tanks are not a problem. It's the non stop flood of heavy tanks that makes the map not fun.
I'm still not getting it. A ~20% NF win rate is still a design goal that must be balanced around every release. Whether it's 50% or 20%, there's still a balance goal. The moment there is no balance goal, then the map shouldn't be official.
10~20% win rate? I don't see how is this even remotely acceptable, care to tell? In fact, don't remove the heavy tanks, don't even restrain the resources, I aswell agree that those are terrible ways if you want to balance it. Just give NF 100~150 more tickets, simple as that. That's going to buff the winrate by at least 5%~10%.
We're going to implement some very strong infantry anti-vehicle skills, so I think NF's chances to win will increase, then.
Allow me to remind you guys that currently, BE don't even need tanks to win. The ticket is simply too low for NF.
No, you definitely got my point exactly. You even stated it yourself: I hate escort with a passion. People bring up escort as a reason to balance things every week; people always vote for it over every other map; people think of it as an exemplar of a good map; the map is inherently unbalanced on purpose and people wonder why NF keeps losing on it. I hate that map more than every other map, more than I would hate rainbowroad and octagons combined into some twisted, malevolent being carried by a blimp.
Fair enough, I sometimes forget that the magically-defined "dev team" doesn't always have a unified opinion about everything.
