It didn't yet contain the script changes. I've added the git logs to it but they still have to be verified by other devs, it's probably missing some info.
I don't think scripts change require beta testing, especially since we can't get anywhere near the amount of players we need to test proper balance.
Nah, testing can help because sometimes there's a number put in wrong or something that was suppose to change wasn't added. For actual does it work for gameplay yeah testing is something that would be nice but there's not enough people for it.
We don't want to release anything that's untested, things can have unintended side effects, even script changes. All patches should have been tested on it's own already but as the past shows, testing often finds bugs that can be fixed without the whole playerbase experiencing them.
You know I pushed for more beta testing but there's such a thing as over-cautious. Not to mention that testing bugs and reporting them is nice but 2.9 still got pushed BEFORE you fixed the bugs we found in the last beta test. Why would you need to back up your stuff?
You can make steam not update things until you actually want it to update, click that update tab in properties and change automatic updates. With betas though just make sure you aren't always in it. Mr. X, People do random work in their empires directory. When you update it'll overwrite any files that changed between updates, which is usually the files that people tend to work on, like scripts.
Damned if you do, damned if you dont I'd rather have a process to follow rather than have to make these judgements every time. As far as I can remember we couldn't reproduce the bugs that were found after some fixes so we believed they were solved.
Oh right. Okay let's put this another way, script (gameplay) and code changes should not be on the same schedule. Scripts should be pushed weekly or even daily, because right now we've moving so slowly the game will still be "terribly unbalanced" (according to some people) in a year.
To participants : I WANT the commanders to research the following things at least once. It's a test after all. BE : Plasma CN/MG. NF : Bio CN/Guided ML. Arty whenever you feel comfortable. Following are the detailing script changes. Most changes were introduced in the above thread. Readding 2-slot Plasma CN to increase people's love & interest for Plasma. Also, 2-slot & 3-slot Plasma CN now have seperate researches. "Plasma Cannon Projectile" -> "Advanced Plasma Cannon Projectile". Slightly improved damage to fit our "more powerful 3-slot weapon" policy. Smaller explosion radius so it's less effective at rekting buildings/infantry. So weapon cost is more of a thing, also enlarging the gap between 2-slot and 3-slot weapons. A little nerf for our #1 infantry/building eraser. Here's your vehicle speed drop. Excluding 3-phase so its specialty is more of a thing now. Don't have to explain, I'd like to see coolant + Capacitive. For reference, HEMG has a projectile spread of 0.025 HEMG deals roughly 25% more damage but the damage is less guaranteed than DUMG now. It feels wonderful to see that tactical arty is now a thing, people no longer use ranged only(for enemy main). So this would probably be my last buff for 180mm&203mm arty. People tend to use 203mm over 180mm like every single time. I only saw 180mm used like 2 times. Not your fault because 203mm and its 375 damage is too attractive. Now, 180mm has much higher DPS and slightly longer range.
dat priorities are so low that I actually forgot. Coolant/3 phase will be the most expensive engines, because they are best at something.
