I've had a bit of time lately to learn more steam engine, C++ and get some bot work done. Sharing a short vid of what I have so far. This time no plugins, way points or nav meshes needed. Just bots doing the best they can taking move orders and trying to build stuff. Clunky but I hope I can keep improving it and adding more abilities.
That looks sweet. Honestly if it was up to me I would give each team 2 repair bots by default in every game.
@Mikleo Once improved, should be able to have various options. Maybe low pop games, gain a couple of engie bots. Higher pop, maybe commander just gets one special errand boy. @Ranger Doesn't pay well enough, and then there's all that unwanted law enforcement attention.... @DDD lol, painfully true. Few more lines of code and they'll probably be better than me.
but the real question is can the bots drive tanks? also being a basebitch is a hard job you work 50 hours a week to build a base but ends up getting destroyed and the commander blames you for it. now robots take their job it will make the basebitch unemployed. Also, they getting called basebitch I told you being a basebitch is the hardest job in empires that also get no attention
A good base monkey can go a long way to securing a team's position in the game, it's a lot more complex job than just taking repair upgrade and building all the turrets. But hey, if I can get things built without leaving my CV, I'm already a fair bit ahead of what a typical game looks like.
This video is somehow pretty satisfying to watch. Yep, especially if you consider that (1) They have no reaction time. (2) They take the shortest path. They really are better. In the video, I also noticed that (1) They don't "repair" the building immediately when they reach the building. It looks to me that they walk to a certain point, and then start repairing. In the video, if someone creates a vehicle, he will push the bots out. :c (2) They seem to have trouble aiming their calculators at the building.
Impressive Misfire - good work. I'd still like something to enable squad leaders to contribute more and not make empires into an rts game where the commander does everything.
