ZUN announced a new edition of the guidelines for the secondary creations of Touhou Project. The following business are newly banned: 1. Sales of 2D animations (3D CGI works and slide shows with effects are excluded.) 2. Sales of games via XBOX 360 indie games 3. Sales of works via AppStore and Android Market 4. Sales of works that exceed the range of dojin distribution (e.g. oversea download services) 5. Works that contain illegal sexual expressions, slanders, and other socially inappropriate descriptions. As for the works which have been announced before the announcement of the new guidelines, ZUN left the decision to the creators whether they will release their works. source :Zun Twitter This sucks!! I was basing my small business off Touhou because Touhou has very loose copyright. The creator, ZUN, allows people to create derivative works and goods without his permission (with some restrictions). But it seems that ZUN now added a few more restrictions on it. It's possible that this ban would affect commercial/large companies and leave the little guys alone. But I fear its a matter of time before the little guys are screwed as well. If Zun collected royalties from all Touhou works, he would be worth an estimated 60 million dollars. Of course if he commercialized his game from the beginning, it would have never become this popular. It may be overrated, but Touhou has inundated its tentacles over a culture/subculture.
