Put me in as the foremost cannonfodder guy and (obviously) play with the hardest difficulty. Last time I played the original XCOM, named a character as myself and made him rush all the time, he surprisingly didn't die and instead survived all the way to the rank of commander. Just choose a guy with decent stats and give him big guns.
