this is over the top http://www.offworld.com/assets_c/2009/05/wwrbigred-thumb-550x258-20235.jpg Yeah its a robot or whatever but I it shows you what I mean. Less detail, more basic shapes like cylinders asf. Strong primary colors, and weapons that are designed to look badass not to function well.
So kinda like a these in red if I'm not mistaken? (sprites taken from advance wars: days of ruin) you know if the barrel for the medium tank is long and thin, add some blocks to the armour and make the tank a little longer then it kinda matches with Chris' idea for NF tanks (although he was talking about a realistic version)
I personally loved the comic book style & detail of Valkyria Chronicles & XIII where the gunfire & explosions have words like "RATATATATA" or "BLAM" accompanying the sound effect. If anything could you probably pull off a graphic novel look.
It may pull in more players, but IMO that drastic a cartooney change would alienate a fair number of players.
well it mostly depends on if he wanted to go closer to VC or XIII. I think having words appear with sound (like blam! or whatever would be cool but wouldn't make sense without a comic cook stye. Also Jessiah/killx/whatever is right, we still have to consider players like chris and blizzzerd who would be alienated if the art style changed too much. So I think going for a decidedly gritty style would be best. (I updated opening post)
i never said i was going to be alienated, i like new stuff, this just dont seems "realistic" to do atm without a single dedicated modeller
No, nothing like that. I mean this: With the treads off this: And with the whole thing being more low to the ground and wider, and with a longer gun than the M26 with a big-ass muzzle brake on the end that shoots out jets of flame when you shoot the thing, and with different things stuck on it depending on what engine, weapons, and armor you're using, also possibly with some spikes on because I like spikes. The ones you posted look even more stupid than the AFV because they're tall and thin, which is a damn stupid way to make something that's going to be getting shot at. Also I hate JRPGs and everything that remotely resembles them, apparently every idiot nowadays has to stick random and retarded oversized blocks of armor on their characters and give them idiotically large swords and obscenely ugly hairstyles, and all robots have to have fins on every possible surface and dumb-ass giant feet with bits of random metal sticking out all over the place, makes them look like a scrapheap achieved sentience and fell in a giant bucket of paint. And you're incapable of conceiving anything which looks badass and functions well?
I think not. You give an NF tank those treads, a big beasty engine noise, and lots of fire and smoke when it shoots, it'll have more 'personality' than you can shake a stick at. It says 'GRAAAAA I AM A BIG TANK GRAAAA DESTROY DESTROY!!!' in block capital letters which are on fire and with a bitchin' guitar solo in the background.
A roadie is someone who goes on before a concert and checks the microphone is working. And what is brutal legend?
I think a mild stylistic change wouldn't hurt. Although too much and Empires will still look not right
