Hey everyone new, congratulations on being selected to the testing team, and welcome to the RC forum.

As the first order of business, please direct your attention to
this thread, which explains how to update your Empires to the latest version. Remember to back up your 2.12 Empires folder, and to create a new, empty folder for the svn to work with. Otherwise nasty things will happen.

Second, once you've updated your Empires folder take a look at this thread, which holds the details of a playtest to be held fairly soon (in a matter of hours from this post.) In the future we'll be holding a number of scheduled playtests, when we hope to get a large number of people on to test, but don't let that stop you from hopping in whenever you can.

Once you've found the bugs, post them here.

That should be enough to get you started.

    ------EDIT----------

As far as public information about the testing, don't share anything that should be private, such as svn details, server details, etc. For general testing discussion obviously these forums exist, but the #empiresmod IRC channel may also be used.

Also, If you have issues with crashing, Make sure you upload your minidumps to the bug-tracker. It really helps debug things when we have a debug dump to work with.

    What he said.

Also, a question: What are we allowed to speak of (if anything) when talking to people who aren't testing and whatnot?

Untill a dev answer this, i suggest you don't talk about any details at all.
Keep it to "it's under construction" and "we've found some new bugs and others have been fixed" etc.

You should not go into detail, ie no specific features. At most, bug fixes, minor adjustments, balancing of everything.

I'm eager to see the answer.

I think in order to have it say "tester" you need to have reported bugs to mantis or something. Not sure though. I've been able to see the secret forum for a long time now, but i never posted on mantis and i wasn't very helpfull (though i did sent crash dumps). I never got that "Tester" under my name and it felt like they didn't know what to do with me :D

I'm probably that guy that doesn't do much but also doesn't cause any problems.

Never thought a newbie/nobody like me would get the privilege and honor of being a tester. I'll be sure to do what I can to help reporting bugs etc.

Edit~ @ Jessiah Yea that was a typo D:, it was early I was excited :D.

    But I don't test 1.08...I test 2.2
It'd look sorta silly if I did change it to 1.08, so I'll just leave it.

Shouldn't the 1.08 tester be changed to just "Tester" or "Beta Tester"? That seems more fitting..

Reading through these forums has made it feel a huge priveledge to be allowed access.

Be assured that I will work my little cotton socks off (as much as I can without interefering with RL) to help this mod.
