I don't know if this is a client side or server side anomaly, and it has only happened to me on one occasion (but for several rounds). I think I recall someone else saying they were experiencing what I was at the same time I was playing with them. I think that person may have been Blooddemon. It started on emp_district402 while on Nachos & Juicebox. When players would die (I seem to only recall teammates doing this), their corpses would kind of flail about and it was as though they were hanging under the map and dangling, with only their head sticking out of the ground. This phase only lasted 1 or 2 seconds. Then, the bodies would lay horizontal and start rolling away from me. It looked as though their rag dolls were rolling with their arms & legs bouncing/flailing about. I'd chase after them attempting to revive them, but I could not manage to use my Engineer revive skill at all. I could still squad revive them though. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen in Empires. Then it got weirder. On the next map, emp_mvalley, I noticed the same problem with friendly corpses. Later on, I saw a friendly Engineer recycle some walls he had dropped that were built up all the way. As you know, when a wall is recycled or deconstructed, it crumbles and the pieces fall to the ground. That didn't happen. Instead, the pieces of wall started bouncing around, and coming towards me. It was the funniest, weirdest thing I've ever seen in Empires. Unfortunately I did not have fraps up or anything so I could not capture it. I did take some screenshots however, on both maps I believe. I may upload them when I get some free time to do so, but I'm not so sure they'll be convincing, though I tried to take them pretty fast so it's kind of like stop-motion in a way. Anyway, I've never heard of this and have never experienced it before. I'm not even sure it's a bug/glitch, but since someone else mentioned similar symptoms, I thought it was noteworthy to share here. *shrug* Sure looked funny though, having broken pieces of wall bounce after me as I chase after roll-away corpses trying to revive them. lol In fact, I believe it was Friday night... which was Halloween. That's a bit of a creepy coincidence, lol. Spooky.
happens to me ALL the time, does it to everything, destroyed walls go bounceing quite far and oddly when this is happening as well.
Inherent Source bug, it used to pop up on HL2DM, ridiculously hilarious. It appears to be the server physics bugging up, sending really weird info to the client
Yeah i've had this, usually on nfescort2 i notice it due to my primary job on that map reviving. rather hard to revive some one when this is happening.
Yeah but restarting the server fixes it, even if you don't restart the client. At least it was like that on HL2DM.
this only happens for individual players though so I dont see the relevence of restarting the server if all the ragdolls are in the correct place server side.(aka everyone can see and rev people fine)
I really wonder why this happens.. it would be great if there was a fix.. it's very annoying on escort, since you can't revive anyone, since everyone's bodies are bouncing around aimlessly x_x
maybe this is tidings of the new magnetic repulsion and attraction skill the dev team is trying to sneak into empires..... I think this has to do with either lag between positions of the object on the server and the player. When it goes from server transmitting the ragdoll's starting position to the client, if you lag at all, it may cause the object to accelerate to the new positions, since nothing on source warps around, and that would cause a huge increase in the amount of force of the rag dolls. So if the arm position is different, but the body position is the same, the ragdoll would acelerate to the new position, and that kind of acceleration would be infanitly fast causing this to happen. That's my best guess. I blame lag. that or a discrepancy in the way a server positions an object on a map and the client positions something on the map
hmmm I really doubt that it is caused by lag. My connection is stable and the occurences of this endlessly bounceing ragdoll useually remain between map changes, I've never even bothered to restart my game or steam or my computer when this problem occurs though so I couldnt narrow it down for you there, all i know is when i get on the next day its gone.
What server does this happen on? or is it all servers? This might also be just as the title of the thread states: an anomaly. In the end, I think it's a source problem rather than an Empires problem.
