I already tried finding out what the broken pieces name is, using mat_crosshair, but that only gives names of textures, not water-thingies :(

    Halp!

I think I first saw this broken water when that weird snow map, with the bunker in middle and high mountains around, was released.

If I verify my cache and the file is from outside the gcf it will not help, will it?

The map you're thinking of is snowbound.

Five bucks says it's a missing normal map. If you look at the water and do mat_texture_list, then filter it with "water", you'll see a "[/?]/nature/water/water_normal" with the black/purple checker box for the texture.

So I'd gander that it's doing the standard thing when it's missing a normal map.

    Also, who is Sodean?

EDIT: Here's the actual fix. There's no "/nature/water/water_normal.vtf" in the materials folder. However, there *is* a "/common/nature/water/emp_water_01_normal.vtf". So I made a "/nature/water" folder in the materials folder, copied "emp_water_01_normal.vtf" to it and renamed it "water_normal.vtf". Works like a charm now. Whether that is the proper texture or not, I have no idea. But it works.

Fuck me purple, that's my bad. I used a new experimental water setup for Silo and it looks like something's fucked up. Looking into it now

    The map is Snowstorm.

Snowbound is missing a fuck tonne of textures due to steam release. That was the one with the 2 forts with nukes in them.

Snowbound, Snowstorm. They both have lots of snow, both are never played.

Well, Snowstorm works fine in the Steam version, but Snowbound hasn't been playable for nearly 2 years due to the missing textures. It would be nice if someone could fix it.

I have that on multiple maps that you made: new slaughtered, Silo,... , the Snowstorm ice has that bug too. I guess I just have to get rid of one single file to fix water for me.

I loved snowbound and I was the reason viper removed it before steam release.
But no derailing until my water looks like water again.
