I don't know anything about tanks other then they drink shit tons of gas to do anything and weigh tons and tons. Ohh and they shoot cannon shells. So why is the M1A1 shit and if it is... why is it still used? also how about M1A2?
Nearly all 'modern' MBTs, including the M1A1, are antiquated shite. They continue to exist for cowardly infantry to hide behind and because the Bradley can't take a roadside bomb. (That there are small companies dedicated to keeping the things repaired and the corresponding generals well-massaged is probably also a factor.) There's no reason to design new MBTs because the modern 'tank' can fly. Attack helicopters, gunships and now drones are the focus of weapons development. In other words, once Empires has blimbz, nobody will want to be in a tank.
Actually I always wondered that myself if that is possible in source. According to this article, yes. But considering, how we move the tank turrets and all the spastic movements some players make with them...I think it either not work at all or the would wiggle that much, because of the turning speed, that they would fly all over the place. (Another point, why we should limit the tank turret rotation speed imo.)
Yes on heavies - they need some kind of penalty that makes them vulnerable to smaller faster tanks. But not on lights and meds please. I think heavies are way too manuaverable, especially the BE Heavy. With the right engine it is easy to slide it around all over the place. Edit: Steve_[UK]?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhbBWNcV5dA It would be much better if you actually had a penalty for having loads more armour and twice the firepower. I love tanking in Empires, and never more than when charging a BE medium through a pack of advancing NF heavies and causing havoc. I think a speed restriction on the heavy turret would effectively do this without having to make them dog slow (boring to take too long to get across maps) and would give the chassis some actual variety. Tank battles where there is a mix of chassis out are always more fun.
I just got this working btw, I can send you the files (the right ones this time) after I've tweaked them some more if you want to check it out. btw, is there any way to build stuff instantaneously? emp_sv_instant_build doesn't seem to do anything. Or if anyone has a map with all vehicles prebuilt.
Cheats DON'T have to be on. emp_sv_debug_instant_build 1 emp_sv_debug_build_vehicles 1 First allows you to instabuild/repair anything. Second allows you to build vehicles anywhere using the V-menu, no VF required.
ya.. turn that on in an player map only... hilarity ensues. hell... turn it on in escort and watch NF beat the shit out of be(for a change).
That is actually quite nice. Gives it more of a "red vs blue" ish look. Maybe all the NF vehicles should be given a more red-ish overhaul.
Remember you're on the Empires forums, where most of the people have never been in any kind of armed forces and aren't in any position to say anything useful, but feel compelled to run their mouths anyway.
Yeah, Mash isn't just texturing it (That image he posted isn't him texturing at all), he's fixing up the current models to give them better detail, make them more economical, better hitboxes, etc.
So the ladder works even if the CV is shifted 90° ... smart :D Else I would say it'ld be unneccesarily dangerious once you climbed the ladder cause you would've to jiggle through a level ladder ...
Did you use the Xoulioul viewport shader to make a screenshot of it? It kindof looks that way. You should really try make a render with mental.ray, that gives even better results.
The only thing that matters is how a model looks in-engine. Not how many light bounces you set up in mentalray, bro. Also, I love how this thread is 22 pages long, mostly talk, and no models being produced.
That's Empires forum for you. If you want less talk, go to deviantART. And just for your information, I don't know how Mash holds it, but I do this to learn something from it, not just only to put this stuff into the mod, that got an average population of one server.
