Turret Upgrades

    just wondering if anyone else felt that engineers should have the ability to upgrade commander placed turrets? it seems like a bit of a waste of a skill when you can only tend to your own turret.

    obviously there would be balancing issues like possibly making the process longer for engineers and maybe increasing the price of them which is being debated anyway.

    engineers are supposed to only have one turret at a time, so i guess it's fine as long as they can not build a turret in addition to that, atleast till rank4

    upgrading a turret means it goes offline for a while, so turrets might go offline without the commander wanting it, ending in big problems if the engineer dies while upgrading, its frustrating, besides that way you wouldnt actually have to research level 3 turrets since you can just get 2 engis to upgrade the most important turrets to lev3 in no time, 1 or 2 level3 turrets at start are already very strong.
    Im against this, very bad idea

    Maybe if instead of having to recycle all the existing turrets, commanders could have an 'upgrade' button, which still deducts points, but say about 50% of the cost of buying a new one? It possibly could still have to be built by an engineer, or alternatively it would do it by itself at a slower rate, but could be sped up by an engineer?

    If anything, I think the commander should have, at best, an "upgrade turret" option. But this might very well be low on the to-do list, as they can recycle/rebuild fairly easily right now. It's a good idea, but there are other things that could be fixed first.

    I think engies should be able to upgrade any turret, as long as the commander has researched lvl 2 and 3 turrets. yeah there is a down time that comms might not like, but theres so much that an engie can do to screw teammates over, that this issue shouldn't be important.

    This should only go in if the commander researched advanced turrets. Possibly, the commander should just have an upgrade button for his turrets so he doesn't have to rebuild entirely. With buidling limits being what they are, giving him some way of using his newly found research would be useful. AHve him click upgrade and then the turret goes offline until the engineer builds the new level turret. This would be a great way for engies to earn points in late game as well.

    well seeing level 1 turrets still offer some defence, id rather keep them and recycle after ive built new level3, except if the placement was really good or anything

    Altho it would be a great to be able to just upgrade them, as said here I dont see why it would be any better, they cost the same and still need to be built

    i think it would help gameplay, and i think that engineers deciding to upgrade turrets would be an even bigger help, as long as it cost the same amount of resorces and required certain tech researched

    would also reduce the turret farmage as people will upgrade their turrets rather than place another next to it (usually)

    yeah if the turrets were limited maybe it could work out and reduce a bit of lag at the same time. im pretty new to empires so i dont know much about the research structure and general workings of the game, so i dont really get your point dizzy, i thought that engys could only upgrade as far as had been researched?

    basically my reason for suggesting it is i think that keeping turrets in order should be the engys job freeing up the commanders time for more important things like communication, giving orders, etc
