VII and VIII had effing glorious music. Nobuo Uematsu has some fantastic work.

never played MW, Halo had some fantastic work done with it. I've heard there was a flight simulator that had some epic tracks. Ofcoarse, Angry did an excellent job with the menu theme for empires mod. Wish he was still around more to do more work for the game.

Other than that, I haven't really noticed any music in a game that was particularly stunning.

Should rename the thread to favorite composers really. If you like the music, you should find the composer. You'll start to find that many games have the same composer writing the music.

    3 to look up:

    Yuki Kajiura
    Nobuo Uematsu
    John Williams.

Though they obviously aren't particular to a game.

Afaik a guy called Amnesiac did the empires mod music, not Angry. Could be wrong. I also don't know if he did the original old old music I posted.

There's quite a lot actually, but avoiding say oldskool themes like Raptor and System Shock (there are literally thousands of good oldies), i'd say (in no order):

    Deus Ex: Unatco

    Sacrifice: Victory [Awesome game] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AODlvxQHHFg&p=368F9FBD74C1B727&playnext=1&index=7

    Dungeon Siege Main theme

Divine Divinity: pobeg8rev (I dunno the real name). Seen here in Beyond Divinity (a game I can hardly play): http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=2dvXSuIZbRU&feature=related

Morrowind: explore 7 or summat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGJs257Vv3Y

Other than that, well...there are hundreds that I like, so much so that I literally have to reign myself in, and would have to scavenge cd's to get at them all. Oldskool Heretic, or the rehashed Hexen II's music was really quite good. RTCW had some great background musics...yeah i'll stop, lol.

The Empires soundtrack is very good too though. But although NeoTokyo has a great soundtrack, the only thing that's stuck with that game is the music...even as empires is, i'd rather have the game popular with not much music than an unpopular game with great music :p

1: Red Alert (All of it)
    2: Killing Floor
    3: Return to Castle Wolfenstein
4: Modern Warfare 2 (Even though I hate that game)
5: Battlefield 1942 (The theme tune is stunning)

    meh

    1. Civ 4 menu song (I believe its called baba yetu)

    2. Minecraft's piano songs (such tranquil music for such a peaceful world)

    3. Audiosurf (because it features all my favorite songs :P)

    4. Goldeneye 007's level music (all of it)

    5. Both of the songs at the credits of World in Conflict (I know their real songs, but the placement and the lead up to them is epic and makes them 10 times better)

Completely forgot Neotokyo. My entire life I've pirated music, or just got it off my Dad (he has a huge collection, probably like 8000 Vinyls and 8000 CDs, plus a few terabytes of MP3s, all legal) but I actually ordered and imported the Neotokyo OST and paid for it myself. It was just so awesome that after listening to it, I decided that the artist really did deserve my money for it.

Personally I hated Tibsun's music, I mean it fit the game really well, but it wasn't nearly as awesome as the music before or after it.

    God I love RA2s music.

    1. Grinder - RA2 (I'm only picking this to represent all of RA2, the rest are all taken off the list because then it would just be RA2 music)
    2. The chopper theme from HL2
    3. Meet the Sniper's theme song (same as RA2, all of TF2s music is great)
    4. X-Com's ambient soundtrack
    5. Starcraft 1 & 2's terran music.

Ah the heady days of Warcraft.
Back when the factions were basically the same except for a 500 gp difference in the final melee damage upgrade and the spellcasters.

Also this makes me want to make a video response to the video entitled: "Warcraft 2 Main Theme" which is comprised of just your peons hacking at wood for 5 minutes.

Deus Ex Yes - this is one of my fav games at all time, possibly my fav, because of how amazing it was for it's time. The amount of stuff you could do in here - LAM climbing, carry Lebedev to the very end, a good story, choices...yeah, it's WAY up there.

    BF

Halo - while this one is the basic one (though orchestral) the ODST jazz like soundtrack was also pretty awesome. Wait, no...most music from the Halo series was awesome.

RDR - the music from the section of the game before Mexico (I fucking hated the mexico sections) is great; nice mix of Ennio Moriconne and Lalo Schifrin.

Max Payne 2 - saved the best for last

There's plenty more good stuff out there, this is what comes to my mind :)

Not music, but sound clip that I love: Look at you, hacker

Although that is really good, I prefer the remixed version that got put into obsidian conflict.
