Everytime i play Empires i start out getting good FPS without any lag and over time it just gets worse. I reduced my settings and that didnt change anything. So i looked into console and the console was being flooded with a message saying "Too many popups, rendering will be bad". Does anyone know what this means or how i can fix it? Thanks Oh and my specs: Intel q6600 EVGA GTX 285 2GB Ram @ 1150Mhz
Hmm, ive never had this problem with any other source games when i leave the options window open.. Ill be sure to close all the windows and see if game performance increases.
i have this too, but there is no (noticeable) performance loss with me could be due to my system keeping up with the increased demand with ease though...
just saying that i have the same problem minus the performance loss tojms i dont want to put down your hardware or anything my apolagistest if i made you feel like that
There really shouldn't be any performance problems unless there are FUCKING TONS of windows open, and we don't have quite enough to be a problem.
This is a wierd bug in the source engine I encounter from time to time. For some reason, it thinks that more than 3 GUI menu's active is too many popups, and the rendering will be bad...but, that's only 3. I have asked around if there was a way to suppress this warning, but, doesn't look like it. Sorry.
I played the game again last night, and i no longer had the issue regarding the popups but im still getting poor FPS. When looking across the map i was getting about 24 FPS on average... I had everything maxed out. Reducing the textures and some other settings crashed the game and didnt really improve performance.
24 fps with everything maxed out while looking at the entire map is bad? Can we trade computers? I used to only get 5 fps in some spots on my old machine.
I think the problem here is that Empires is a bit of a beast. There's so much shit going on that your framerate will be a fraction of that which you might get in say HL2:DM. 24FPS when looking at a whole map is pretty good - It's definitely playable.
I found this problem today when I was in windowed mode. Didn't notice any considerable performance problems though.
Make sure you disable vertical sync and HDR. 24 frames is like nothing with that setup. Wanna tell us some more about your graphics settings and maybe the used resolution and maybe about what OS you are running empires @?
Keep in mind that Source engine heavily relies on the CPU. Therefore with higher frequency (= overclocking your cpu) you'll get higher fps. The limiting factor is the cpu in any case. If you want you can try playing with mat_queue_mode 2 which will make source use more then one core and significatly boost your fps, howerver the game will be instable and it is probable it will crash soon.
