First off i'd like to say that i had never though i'd ever be making a thread in this subforum, but there's something i seriously need to know:

How the heck do you make homing mls on tanks home in on their target? I've tried locking on and firing, locking on firing and holding their fire button, but they just wont home :(

I've often seen other people do it, and i love to know how, so i wont have to dumb fire homing missiles.

They're probly using guided. to use homing, you have to hold the cursor over the enemy vehicle for about 30 seconds. Then fire.

30 seconds? Isn't that a rather ridiculous long time?

    Yep.
Why do you think nobody ever uses homing?

In close proximity you can have a lock on in 3 seconds if you keep aiming perfectly at the enemy tank. When you and the enemy are moving over rough terrain this is not so evident though.

If you want to test it:
    Start empires
    Type in console: emp_sv_vote_commander 4
    Type in console: map emp_canyon
    Type in console: sv_cheats 1
    Type in console: emp_sv_research_complete 1

Spawn, place a vf, build it, buy a tank or jeep (something fast) and drive it towards the enemy barracks
Change team, build a vf, buy a tank with homing missiles, drive out of the vf, stand still and target the enemy vehicle. Within 3 seconds you'll have a lock on.

Now IF that vehicle would be moving the missiles would follow it when fired while aiming at it and having a lock on. Of course you can't test this when you're alone. All you can test is IF you can get a lock on and fire at the vehicle.

It's still an excessively long period of time, it might as well be 30 seconds. In 3 seconds you can get killed by most weapons in most vehicles. Not to mention it's hard to keep your crosshair in the small rectangle while the enemy is moving and so are you.
