We are moving to steamworks, You only need svn if you are a mapper or want to be contributing in some other way. ~brutos
SVN testing for Empires is now open at this point. The hassel of getting tester status and then getting SVN access is too much at this point to get many people in so we're opening up access to anyone that wants to test. We encourage if your just going to do some random testing to do it on the test server rather than your own 'create a server', hopefully if enough people decide to go for random testing we can get random decent sized tests going.

firstly you will have to download SVN interface, typically tortoise SVN.

    http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads

Once that is downloaded and installed you will need to make a folder and name the folder "empiresTEST" (should have a valid folder "...Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\EmpiresTEST\bin ") in your SourceMods directory.

Then you right click on the empiresTEST folder and do an SVN Checkout, for the URL of repository use:

    http://raegquit.com/EmpSVN/sourcemod_dir

    Everyone shares a tester account:
    user name:tester
    password: tester

    server IP epic-empires.co.uk:27017

Like I said, please try to do your tests on the test server, hopefully anyone on your friends list will see you are on the Empires SVN and join you in your tests. Dont feel confined to just the scheduled times.

Also, feel free to add me on steam (SN = ScardyBob) and I can invite you to the Empires Tester group. Many of the playtests are scheduled via the steamgroup because its much easier for everyone involved.

The general idea is PUGs on the weekend and small-scale bug/glitch finding during the week.

Edit: I've put together some pictures to help people out.

Steps to Setting up the Empires tester SVN
Step 1: Download and install a SVN client like TortoiseSVN.
Step 2: Make a folder named "EmpiresTEST" in your Sourcemod directory (i.e. "...Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\EmpiresTEST\")

Step 3: Right click on the "EmpiresTEST" folder and select 'SVN Checkout'

Step 4: Enter http://raegquit.com/EmpSVN/sourcemod_dir in the URL of Repository.

Step 5: Enter the SVN username and password
    Username: tester
    Password: tester

If everything went correctly, you should see this screen with files being downloaded onto your computer. The initial download is approximately 1.5 GB, so it make take a while on slower connections. However, you will only need to download this much once.

Step 6: Everytime before you join the tester server for a playtest, you need to update your SVN folder. To do so right click on the 'EmpiresTEST' folder and click on SVN update.

    TROUBLESHOOTING:

    Problem:

    Solution:
    1. Do a TortoiseSVN -> Switch

    2. On this screen, hit OK

If everything works right, you should start downloading files.

I just noticed PUGVII has the same date as PUGV....

Anyways, once uni stops killing my soul (i.e. later this week) I should be able to hop in.

That's just an artifact of trying to get a U.S. and Euro friendly playtest date on consecutive days. The idea is that the playtests will start at roughly the same time (6 to 9 pm local) for the major U.S. and euro timezones.

    Bumped

I just put a step-by-step guide (with pictures) on how to setup the SVN if people are having trouble.

I get an error that says:

The OPTIONS response did not include the requested activity-collection-set
this often means that the url is not WebDAV -enabled

    I get a similar error...

Server sent unexpected return value (403 Forbidden) in response to OPTIONS
    request for 'https://dedi.soundspawn.com/svn/repos'

Can't update, don't know how to fix it.

I believe svn is down for a bit for restructuring now that 2.25 is out

Maybe this thread needs a bump; I am getting same error as described in the last post. Has the testing been closed?

At the moment, yes. We're moving over to steam-content delivery (Testing via steam), but we're having an issue with people being told they don't own the game currently. Once that issue is resolved, everything should be set.

{necro} so... do we get to test the new update before official release or is it just going out there... and how is it going to be tested, svn or steam download?
