I wish I could, but look at how this thread started. It was a guy moaning because FN was rushing every round and winning every round because no-one could be bothered to stop him. No matter which way I go on this, I'm fucked. It's actually mainly scripts, not coding. The Orangebox just sort of changed the way they were interpreted. But most of the vehicle handling issues could be fixed if someone wanted to mess with the vehicle handling scripts, but they're absurdly complex and time consuming. It's a really slow process as well, not to mention that you'll never get a true representation of how things are going to handle until you play with them on a server with high ping.
I find this whole vehicles are OB issue ridiculous tbh. Vehicles didnt spin untill the patch that introduced big changes to engines came out. OB change was back in 2.2. Thats like what, 3 years of vehicles doing fine on ob? You'd spin if you drove like a retard, sure, but now its nearly omnipresent.
As far as I know it never got ported. I never played the original but I did take a brief look at an old version of Empires which had it in, from before my time. If someone decompiled it then it could probably be ported. I can't judge and say it'd be good or bad, but I can't help but think it could have had a lot of camping. Yes and no. Orangebox changed the way they were handled in general. Originally after the port, they handled like shit (super slow turning etc). Drag fixed that and made them a lot better at turning, but they had to have the torque massacred, thus we ended up with a situation where they can't climb hills a lot of the time. This was really noticeable on emp_arid, but it did happen on other maps like Cyclopean. Finally, I fixed that but started causing a lot of spinning if you have 100+ pings. Essentially there are 2 sets of scripts. Handling is on a per-vehicle basis. Engine stuff is on a per vehicle-group basis, i.e. NF/BE jeep, NF/BE APC, NF LT/BE AFV, etc. Engine stuff is relatively simple to work with, and I've been trying to get results out of using those. Vehicle handling scripts however are the stuff of nightmares, and a place that no-one really wants to go. Whenever anyone has said "for fucks sake, give me your shitty scripts you useless cunt, I'll fix the handling" to me, they've pretty much always found themselves with their head in their hands crying in a corner about an hour later. They're really, really, really horrible to work with. How Drag managed to do what he did is beyond me. He's a better man than I am.
And now we have come full circle. Incredible. http://forums.empiresmod.com/showpost.php?p=440798&postcount=1 I had a long post about infantry combat but I just realised the crux of it was that in the old game, most average people had multikills 50% of the time, now it's more like 1. That's because people get carp flung at them when they lead. Same thing with commanding, but you have to have more of an ego to lead a league game. We have leaders, but they just don't want that grief.
Hardly anyone wants that fucking grief. I can be a decent pub squad lead but, I generally hand it off to someone I know who can use the squad skills because, I got tired of people seeing 12+ squad points at the end and screaming we lost because you didn't use them. Fucking I save that shit for if we need it! You know... squad revive on enemy com or a few arty strikes in the right place! hello?
JustGoFly is awesome because he just says and does whatever the fuck he wants. Everyone here under the age of 21 will be exactly the same in 10 years, everyone here over 21 is already there.
Maybe that's because most of the people who gave a real crap have been put off this place for the most part.
Yeah, we played a round out two together a few days ago. It's a shame I don't see more forum trolls on the servers.
NJ is a awesome player. He pretends to troll constantly and he just makes me laugh because its like watching a guy fall down the stairs repeatedly. Similar to paradox just less gay.
