It's pretty bad. I noticed a couple of folks had it on their wish list, so I thought I'd save you all some money and post a thread about it. It's very, VERY buggy. Like, more buggy than stronghold 2. It's got some interesting ideas, but you know how the clunky implementation killed SH2? Well this is worse. Also it has no skirmish mode. I can go into more detail, but suffice to say I wouldn't buy it until they patch it, if they patch it.
The game itself is worse than the lackluster promotional material believe me. Instead of cutscenes, they actually just show you the storyboards. It's amazingly bad, like, I can't actually think of a videogame that was more of a step down than this.
Yes they were, the game does come with a free copy of stronghold 1, which is probably the best part of it.
Yeah, I had a feeling this game was going to suck. Stronghold died for me after the first one + xpac, but that first game was/is amazing.
On the plus side I just realised I never got round to finishing that copy of unreal gold I bought in the steam sale ages ago, so I'm reinstalling it and going to play the crap out of it. I recommend everyone else do the same as unreal is an amazingly fun game. With some even more awesome music.
Just go watch some of the Crusder Extreme walkthroughs, it puts supreme commander to shame. Mother of God.
I failed at the very first mission of extreme, how the heck where you supposed to survive so many enemy, or even dream of matching the amount of units?
On a related note I just bought sword of the stars 2. I never actually played the first one until yesterday, but it was like £4 so I bought it to see what it was like, and it's actually really good. Imagine the vehicle designing from Warzone 2100, combat similar to homeworld, turn based strategy which is hard to compare but I guess is a little like the older total war games? Or civilisation possibly. So I bought the second one because it looks like the first only cooler. If you're looking for a good strategy game, I can recommend the first one which is dirt cheap in the sale, then you can get the second one if you like it. Hmm I'm tempted to start a general videogame recommendation/caution thread.
You mean a troll spamm fest where everyone goes like "HUUURRR DIS IT THEEEE BEST GAME EVAR AND ALL U LIK IS CRAP"
The first one, not the second one. http://store.steampowered.com/app/42890/?snr=1_4_4__13 Apparently SOTS2 is actually really fucking bugged :/ http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?488-Sword-of-the-Stars-II& Looks like they actually released a beta version or something, dunno how quickly this will be fixed, there is lots of official response on the forum though, so it looks like they are actually working on it, unlike SH3. Still, can't recommend buying until it's actually fixed. I am getting really sick of buying shit that's literally half finished. If skyrim does the same thing my head is going to explode. Still, everything I said about the first one stands, it's certainly worth looking at, a little rough in places but definitely does some interesting things.
Search for crossroads mission vids. They says its the hardest one. also, general recommend/caution game thread? I do both for homeworld2, its a hard masterpiece of shit. Anyone who did it without patch 1.1 gets massive props. Finished the game on a thrid try, 2 years after buying it and about 40~ hours of head to wall bashing. Stretches your ability to abuse the ai to the max. Still love it. Definately not for someone who considers minecraft or ab to be hardcore games.
I remember trying homeworld 2 SP and getting annihilated on the second mission. Skirmish was more fun though.
I would get SOTS if I had money... it looks like fun. Has anyone played Tropico 4? Would like to know if it's any good.
