Download this zip file and unpack it. Steam.cfg should be where steam.exe is located. Restart steam. Install "Empires". It will automatically update after Steam restarts. I need your steam account name to add you to testers group in Steamworks so that you won't get "Account does not own this game". FAQ: 1. Does it interfere with Empires 2.30? No. 2. Does it replace SVN? Yes and No. It replaces SVN in the way that, you no longer need SVN. But it won't break SVN, SVN will still be updated (albeit you can't use it to play on the Steam Empires test servers), and used by mainly developers. 3. Why am I getting disconnected with "Client does not own this game"? All testers have to send their account name to Trickster or MOOtant.
Yes, you don't need SVN. Final release will come from Valve's Steam servers. Download is around 900MB (on disk it's 2GB). Source SDK Base 2007 is referenced automatically so it's impossible to forget about it.
Does it overwrite the Empires folder, make a new folder called EmpiresTEST or...something else that doesn't interfere? Edit: I guess that's a silly question - it'll move from the /sourcemods directory to /username instead, won't it?
I created a file named "steam.cfg" (In steam/), c/p what's supposed to be in there, restarted steam and now what? Is it supposed to show up in my games list under "Not installed"?
Yeah I think so Muffin - my regular (renamed Empires folder) was still in my games list as Empires 2.25. I'm currently downloading the "Empires" through steam just like Moo says to do... Nearly finished so I can answer my own question about overwrites soon :p Edit: In your SteamApps folder there will be two new .GCF files (I think) named empires_base.gcf and empires_content.gcf - empires content is just over 2gigs. It has placed an Empires folder in my steamapps/username/ folder, instead of where we currently have 2.25 - steamapps/sourcemods/empires. Unfortunately, it seems it still has that start-up bug that we were having in the SVN (or at least some of us were having..). [same as this one:
[15:27] <+Deif> I heard it overwrites 2.25 [15:27] <+Deif> where does it install to? [15:28] <@msieradzki> it does not [15:28] <@msieradzki> into gcf [15:28] <@msieradzki> steamapps/empires_base.gcf [15:28] <+Deif> ah ok [15:29] <@msieradzki> it doesn't touch SourceMods at all [15:29] <+Deif> does it go in common then [15:29] <@msieradzki> somehow I can even use brutos' steam.inf from visual studio [150] <@msieradzki> steamapps/empires_base.gcf, steamapps/empires_content.gcf, steamapps/<ACCOUNT>/empires [150] <@msieradzki> only cfg and bin are kept outside of GCF [153] <@msieradzki> the cool thing is that I can easily check all the crash dumps from now on [153] <@msieradzki> from every playtest and such
It doesn't show up in my games list Is there a link I can use to install it? (steam//installomethingidkwtf)
I already had a steam.cfg file in my steam folder - it was empty but.. Although it shoulda overwritten that anyway, so... ? Did you already install it from the games library list or is that what you're trying to do? It IS set to "Show> ALL GAMES" not just "installed" right?
I'm trying to install it from the games library. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6175221/Pictures/steamhatesme.png But where the hell is it? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6175221/Pictures/asd.png I'm doing it wrong?
You have it saved as steam.cfg.txt. You need to make sure it's actually a cfg file. Save it and change the text document part to all files.
That's fixed now. Are the servers up yet and updated to work with steampires? When I try to join the SVN servers, I get an error message saying that my account doesn't own the game.
