As of the current driving system for vehicles, it's more of a dry automatic vehicle setup. Although as much as its easy for some and hard for others to drive, standard vehicle setup for Empires would be fun Possibly in the 3.00 or greater patch series this could be integrated, allocating certain keyboard keys to vehicle control. Such as W,S,A,D are still for movement such as at current patch. Shift for the clutch. Space-bar for the break such as at current patch. Either arrow keys or W,S,A,D to shift the reference setup to shift gears or go in reverse. Possibly a key for ignition too, such as backspace. With this it would add some room for mastering driving in Empires mod, where if some people clutch and shift gears too quickly they stall and sit there. Where in other situations, once mastered; gear shifting can create a great speed boost for proper etiquette. Discuss
Good for helping tanks struggle up hills Good for jeep races Bad for everything - especially gameplay, tanks, new players, and people that don't play racing games.
Well true, but there could always be some additional tips or tool tips added in the manual and such. Its really how the essence of vehicles should work anyways in Empires.
lol ... srsly ... lol ... go play a racing game. also what bullshit is this WASD for driving and selecting gears? you didnt really think that trough do you?
If you could do that with Jeeps only, I'm all for it. If we finally get dedicated gunners working with tanks, so you can have 1 designated driver and multiple gunners, it'd be fine too I guess. Currently if you implement that for combat vehicles, it's a bit steep of a learning curve aiming, shooting, selecting the correct weapon, maneuvering plus switching gears accordingly... but damn it would be fun. Though I can see the majority of players getting pissed at the harder controls.
Wow, this idea would be great for race maps for when they start to come around. Problem, the coding would be a pain to work out properly. Do any of the devs know how to drive a standard much less actually drive one?
if seriously debated i would prefer to see something like this space = break shift = 1 gear up ctrl = 1 gear down alt = clutch
IF seriously debated i would want to choose the bindings myself but seriously - dont try to make the universal game out of empires? why dont you go play racing games if you want to race against others? they usually have better, nicer looking tracks, cars and their vehicle phyiscs are a million times better than what you can archieve with hovercraft tanks ... srsly ... srsly ... srsly ...
Okay fair enough. It could be an optional transmission load out for vehicles. For those that are bored of just holding down W,S,A,D and pumping the space bar. Yah'know, leaving a little bit of room for difficulty instead of just dry driving. It really isn't that hard to drive in Empires, like seriously... Most difficult thing to do with a vehicle is guess the timing and angle of a projectile/ML then fire on the target, Or drive through really narrow gaps at the least.
If we only forced it on jeeps and made the rest optional we could keep a lot of noobs from buying jeeps because they would get in their first one and go "FFS WHY IS THIS JEEP SO SLOW?????//" and they would hop out and never buy one until they learn to drive it then once they do learn they will most likley be a veteran and will use it for the right reasons
this really doesnt belong in empires. And having clutch in a video game is just retarded, you dont have nearly the control in changing gears in a video game as you do in real life which entirely defeats the purpose. Let go of alt? BAM you dropped the clutch, teh fail. And since all you CAN do is drop the clutch wtf is the point of having it? just make a script that initiates clutch in, gear up, clutch out. bam done instantly just tap the up gear button. So basically even if we ignore that empires is not the environment for such a feature it still fails in its general idea to incorporate real life into the game, your keyboard is all on/off buttons, pedals are variable levers, all of them, break gas and clutch you can ADJUST the change and pressure. I know racing games think its cute and since you basically drive in a circle and run out of things to do anyway its understandable, this isnt a racing game. Hell most of the time your firing your cannon or ML your sitting still or close to it. No one cares if you shifted 5 times to drive from this ref to that one or just held down W, bam your driving is done.
