Remember how in Insurgency a leader-type has a weapon that just happens to be better than anyone else's? Why wouldn't this fit in Empires, so being a squad leader reaps more rewards than just sitting around pushing buttons in your commands menu. I know it isn't that fun to be called for having this benefit or that squad revive all of the god-damn-game long, so why not add a unique, more powerful weapon for each squad-leadin' class to encourage them? Say, a semi-automatic carbine for the scout; A powerful close-combat shotgun for the rifleman; The submachine gun type 3 for the engineer (surprise!); And perhaps a quad-tube rocket launcher for the dear old grenadier captain; Naturally, there'd have to be more than one person in each squad for it to work, as with the free infantry uprade. This way you could control these punch-packin', ass-haulin', fast-firin' boomsticks so not everyone has one. Bash or praise, just keep it civil.
I guess the 'con to it would be that it'd -most likely- have to be dumbfire if ever implemented. And concerning the picture, that's a M202A1 FLASH napalm launcher.
That would definitely convince more people to form squads, meaning that the commander would control troop movements more. Also the squad would stick together more because the squad leader would be a important asset. Also....... WANT!
Indeed, as it is, there isn't much benefit to being a squad leader aside from being able to unleash all there awesome and not-so-awesome specials. People as it is now rather try and dodge the squad leader bullet rather than sign up like madmen.
Being squad leader rocks. Playing matches with organized squads who stay in the SL aura takes the game to a new level
But in Pub servers, that doesn't happen. You get 1 or 2 squad leaders with full squads and everybody else is unassigned
Considering a server of 30 people... thats 3 squads per side... so.. 4 squads is the max you will ever get... Every game I played people squad up; theres nothing complicated about it, and squad leaders being useless? Nay... Giving them some uber pwnstick? Nay... I would rather see them us upgrades for the entire squad using squad points (Think something along the lines of warhammer infantry upgrades), so if your leader purchases shiny boomsticks for entire squad... sureley you will follow him into battle no?
If you get two persons per squad, then you'll have as many as 7 squads. Not that you'd get enough squad points to do much of anything with them.
Then he loses his weapon upon death? I'm just trying to get the NF SMG3 back in. Might as well wrap it up in a fairly well-thought out suggestion.
I think the W40k style will prove to be a better solution to the no team work amongst squad members and seeing as when a comm gets heavys hardly anyone uses the meds or lights(for the BE I understand why every one hates there lights). So having a better gun available if you work with the squad your in might be more enticing of an offer than soloing but there can always be lechers to this system.
Slith: if he loses his weapon upon death, what is to stop hopping SL from one player to another so they all have the upgraded weapons?
Problem is that everyone wants to be squadleader than. In public games that can be a real problem if you need for example a grenadier as leader and your scout/rifle whatever leader wont leave cause of his ownstick. Its not the first suggestion for that and i like the idea from the start, i just try to point out problems
Agreed with Mayama. Plus the fact that this is totally exploitable: Create a squad with 5 members. SL immediately leaves the squad, which makes the next guy the SL who "refreshes" at the nearest barracks/armory/flag to gain the SL weapons. Rinse and repeat for every other squad member. ??? Profit.
Empires > Insurgency. I have no doubt at all that the Empires dev team can succeed where Insurgency failed.
