Spawn in CV?

I was playing around in hammer trying to knock together a "titan"-like gamemode, when I noticed something strange: When I parented spawn points to the command vehicle, and selected that point to spawn from, you actually spawn inside the command vehicle, in command view.

Now I've no idea if this is because of the proximity of the spawn points, or the fact that they are parented, but I know that this could be very handy.

I also have no idea how it reacts when you have multiple players (do the others spawn outside the vehicle? does it crash the game?)

This must have been an intentional feature, only I've never read anything about it, so I thought I'd put it out there. This will definately help me to get a pretty decent titan game-mode together, although you will only see the CV icon on the minimap.

 

Most likely it was coded in to have a parented spawn point act as commander mode, i think it's up to Krenzo to clear this one up.

It goes STRAIGHT into the tank.

 

I can confirm that this only happens when the spawn point is actually parented. Cyber, I'm not sure what you're trying to say. The spawn point works from outside of the vehicle.

Would certainly be interesting to see mobile spawn-point command vehicles driving around...

 

So like an APC? but on drugs?

 

Okay let me explain.
In the normal HL2 game, when you entered a vehicle, your player would sit in the car.
In Empires it is the same thing.
If you enter a jeep, your play model is in the jeep.
If you enter a comm, your player model is in the comm.
If the spawn IS the comm you start in the comm.

 

In other words, E + vehicle = teleport into vehicle. Then you get the vehicle controls and hud.

So if someone was to no clip into the tank and fire a RPG, it would probably kill you and him, but leave the tank alive. Thats a guess, but I've seen people talk about it and it makes perfect sense to me.

 

This is basically how the APC works. It has a spawn point parented to it. When spawning to that spawn point, it automatically places you in the APC in the last available spot. If you parent a spawn in hammer, it's just how the APC works, except you'll spawn in the last available spot in the command vehicle.

This may be true since comm view, your body is turned invisible and sent in the air.
This could be true, but a script is probably at play here to stop that.

 

Correct. Use the console command "kill" to suicide when in CV comm view and your body falls from the sky.

HURRAY FOR RAINING BODIES!

 

If you are not carefull you could also get blown up by a nuke or HE arty...

It would be, if they didn't keep falling out of the sky

 

so... can't you model the inside of the APC, so passengers just look at eachother and bounce about, waiting for the "out out out" message from the gunner or driver? that would be sooooo amazingly cool :D

 

Or they could get into a position where they could shoot like now. Its easier for the developers, easier on the engine because it doesn't have to render additional stuff thats not used, and then you can shoot!

 

I think this is planned for some point in the future. (after blimbs)
