Here's just a few ideas I came up with for fun maps. If anyone wants to use them be my guest, otherwise just leave feedback on what you think of them, so that I know what the community wants! Dam : Brenodi have to defend a huge dam, and NF have to work their way up the valley and destroy it, sequentially capturing a few flags on the way (this won't be anything like district/escort, but much more open). The destruction sequence would be quite spectacular! Lost : Didn't know what to call this one. Set on an island, with underground hatches (ala the ABC/C4 series). There will be 4 hatches, and a larger central one. Each one contains health and ammo. All res are earned through the hatches, so no need to build res nodes. Most fighting would take place above ground, although hidden tunnels might exist. If one team captures all of the hatches, it's game over. Sky-Battle : Set on huge floating fortresses, each team fights as they would normally, but high up in the sky, with inter-connecting walkways and action on several levels. Rats : A rats-style level, where the players are miniature. Could be set in one room or an entire house, and could involve any gameplay type.
Hows abouts we turn this thread into a brainstorming thread for mappers, where they can look at our cool ideas for maps and pick one that they want to do? Heres my idea: Prison: The Northern Faction must fight their way through multiple levels of prison system, each one harder for them to penetrate. When they get to the end of the floor, they release the prisoners on that floor to help them creating more spawns. The goal is to release some of their comrades that were secretely stealing Brenodi technology and battle plans. Anyway I like all of those Ideas but "Rats" could wait for a while as we need real maps right now.
Trench warfare: Basicly a huge trench network, with some no-mans land in the middle. Also lots of bunkers, dugouts, craters, shell holes, et cetera. Not sure if vehicles should be included at all...........Perhaps only in a muted form. Coupled with gas artillery, and you have awesomeness in a bottle, er... bunker. EDIT: Addendum to "Sky-Battle". Instead make it on the upper-most levels of skyscrapers, but otherwise good idea.
Head-crab invasion: No story, don't even bother. Set at the foot of a mighty fortress, the BE have to invade the NF's most secure front. The oods seem nigh impossible, but the BE have a secret weapon: A head-crab canister shooter!!!(working like an artillary, but in a building and having a lengthy reload) The head crabs do much damage to enemy soldiers, and will intatly turn a dead corpse into a mindless zombie, but cannot harm buildings or vehicles. The canisters themselves should do explosive damage, so that zombifying can start early. But be warned, the zombies attack everyone in their path! Criticize me, please I beg of you!!! :D
Well, the idea itself sounds kind of fun, but I don't think something this complicated would be possible without extra coding. All the headcrab canisters in HL2 SP were scripted.
the gravity on the official was turned way low for a few hours today, and i was thinking mabey a map based around that. something like in a bio-dome type thing on one of the moons (there are 2 right?). have the NF main be the docking bay (they just landed) and the BE main be the controll panel of the super doom blimp, or whatever. maybe even make it like a reverse escort (NF has to either kill all BE or get to the controll pad before it launches)
in the story they (the factions) are not interested in space exploration here is another idea both teams spaun at opposite ends of the map they both have a carpark of diffrent tanks and apc's no spaun points exept for the apc'c 1 commander vehicle to controll the players but nothing's buildable now total war untill all players of team X died and they have no more apc's edit: i am doing a map around it, anyone who wants to do to, go ahead
on a bit of a side note: please, please re-write the NF/BE story to be specific to every map that you make. that way each map has its own place in the story. i tihnk it would really help give empires more of a conected feel.
maybe not rewrite, the story is not finished, make it get into the maps step by step at the start by naming those battlezones, then by including actual reports then etc...
Just had a thought: is anyone actually doing a series of maps yet? i.e. one campaign played out over several level changes. This might be something somebody could look into.
king of the hill center flag-control it for a set time to win push of war.. i made a thread about this but... a drivable train in the center drive it back to your base to win skull ball (like halo) a ball that can be passed from player to player plays just like king of the hill exept that only one person will be controling the count down (would encorige team work to protect that man)
