What do you think is more important in Empires, a player's individual skill or their ability to work with the team?
Obviously both are important but I wanted to know which the empires community thinks is more important in the game.

...should we say what we think should be more important, or what we feel is more important in the game at the moment?

    Teamwork

Teams that work together almost always beat teams that don't (even if they have more skilled players). The only exception to this is ninjaing with is almost entirely dependent on skill.

I want skilled teammates that do teamwork.
You cant rely on unskilled players enough
to play as a team cause if you for example
cant be sure that the only rifleman in your team
is able to kill those enemys bevor you, you have
to go rifleman yourself and kill them.

That thread reads like teamplay and skill would
exclude each other, as it would be opposites.
If all depends on teamplay it means that every "unit"
is exchangeable what would make the game totaly boring.
Nobody wants to be a mindless rts drone waiting for orders.

Yeah I agree with what I think mayama is talking about. I like them both equally. Can't they both be important?

1v1, Skilled vs. Teamworking: Skilled wins
3v3, Skilled vs. Teamworking: Skilled wins
1v3, Skilled vs. Teamworking: Skilled survives until Team Teamwork gets vehicles

The assumption here being that "skilled" implies doing whatever one's self deems most useful at the moment and being twice as good at it, whereas "teamwork" implies doing whatever one person deems useful at the moment, but being no better at it. Assuming that one person has as good of an idea of what is useful as anyone on the "skilled" team, the teamwork team would still be at a disadvantage.

For the record, I count team balance based on the number of skilled players. In an 8v8, if one team has five skilled players and other team has two skilled players, I consider it a 5v2. The other players don't count because the geometric effect of skill virtually eliminates them; a single skilled player can take on several unskilled players while being much more effective at any particular moment.

Skill is probably more important in a public server and team work is more important in a PUG or scrim. I think

    Er, both are neccesary.

If nobody works as a team then the enemy team of average skill will beat them by fighting concentrated against your spread out team. If your team can't fight then the enemy will simply roll over them.

Assuming the enemy is average at each you need both to some extent to beat them.

Although it does depend what you mean by teamwork, if you mean coordination that isn't particularly neccesary, all you really need is lots of people in the same area.

in some maps (escort) its skill, because players will ALREADY be naturally grouped in 1 or 2 semi-large areas

in other maps (more open maps, half of command maps) 1 good working squad can win the game against an entire team of veteran(in skills not playtime ;)) squad running around minding there own busness

"Skill" will be the deciding factor in any multiplayer FPS, but with enough teamwork non-skilled players should be able to at least put up a decent fight.

Wait... Doesn't teamwork come with skill? It's tougher to organize noobs than people who know what they're doing.

I really can't think of a preference, because IMO Empires balances them very well. What I mean is: there are three aspects to a good team: skill, teamwork and a good commander.

A team which has all three is unstoppable, but it's extremely unlikely to happen in pub games. It's also not that much fun to just steamroll the enemy, unless the enemy is equally good which is even less likely.

A team which only has two (any two) can always compensate for the third. These are usually the most fun because it's possible for a good player to make a difference. Also, the less experienced players will usually learn a lot about the third, missing, aspect in this kind of team.

A team which only has one can be good and/or fun, but it depends on the enemy, and you only have a chance if you rely on your strengths (the one aspect you're good at). This is the most common in pub games. I'd say it's about evenly distributed between all three types (skill only, teamwork only, good comm only).

A team which has neither of the three is unsurprisingly neither fun nor good.

While skill is the deciding factor in most games, teamwork is what makes it fun. Of course, most people don't want to use teamwork, so you have to implement it as non-invasive as possible.
Still, teamwork is a highly necessary aspect in a game like Empires, which combines FPS and RTS. In an RTS, there doesn't appear to be a lot of teamwork between your units because they're just A.I.-controlled units. But in Empires, they're real players who won't automatically work together. For the FPS and RTS part to succeed, teamwork is simply invaluable.

Yes some people can get into a base an Sabatoge the buildings and win, BUT if the other team has teamwork it won't work, he will die quickly and the buildings will be repaired, its all about teamwork.

Atm teamwork means the skilled players fight at the front
and the sucky players build the stuff at base. I dont like that,
new players shouldnt be mules for the good ones if you want
    to play successfull.

    Skill but with little teamwork.
A team can work together to destroy a tank, while a skilled person can buy tank and destroy that tank.

Definitely teamwork. A squad that sticks together, buildings and capturing refs, listening to the commander, is better than just having people with lots of skill but no teamwork.

I'm assuming by skill you mean killing skills. Like they can take down multiple enemies fast, but they aren't the ones to rely on to build refs, etc.
