I was thinking, and I realized there's only about two ways to do this: Have the light be bright enough that people can see, or implement an ability that allows each side to see in the dark in a different way. I'm not sure if this ought to be a skill upgrade, or if it ought to come free. I was thinking that the nightvision for BE could basically be that they use their nanotechnology to rearrange the rods and cones in their eyes so they can have brighter, but entirely greyscale, vision. They'd be able to see clearly in darkness when they turned it on, but it'd take time to switch back and forth (you could put TONS of cool effects in here for the transition period). The NF, I'm not totally sure on. Perhaps they've used their biotechnology to either genetically enhance their eyesight making it so they automatically see somewhat better in darkness, perhaps light changes don't affect them as much. Another possibility is that they can switch their nightvision on, but when it comes on it's not as bright as the BE, though they can still see most colors. I dunno. Just random crap.
i like the idea in the first post for BE and either regular light amps or a slow auto-brightning passive ability for NF (makeing them more prone to be blinded by bright lights in the night due to ultra-dialated puples)
uh, flashlights anyone? proper heat-sensing or something would definately look cooler as a researchable tech though. Can you imagine that combined with a day/night cycle? The research priorities would completely change depending on the time.
flashlights for everything except for scouts, who get night vision things. that would look and be really really cool. oh, but you can't use a weapon and look through night vision at the same time
Brenodi Empire getting night vision, and Northern Faction flashlights? That's a good way to give Brenodis an overly easy win.
I didn't mean only one team have flashlights. I meant have flashlights as the starting tech for both sides, and then better researchable alternatives for both as suggested. I agree that both sides should be roughly matched.
I think the Brenodi Empire should get night vision, which limits viewing distance, and Northern Faction gets thermal goggles, which allows you to see targets from a bit further, but you can't see if they're in cover or not, since floor, walls, are cold.
I don't know about the rest of you, but my gamma tends to suck shit. If night maps get popular, I seriously hope night vision will be cheap and accessible. Or at least flashlights. >
