(If this isn't the right area to post it in, tell me, I'm new here.) Ok, so I have this problem and I looked it up on the forum and the answer didn't come up so I decided to post it. I recently downloaded the game, patched it correctly, and started it up. Then when I went to find a server to join nothing came up after five minutes. Then I refreshed it a bunch of times and still nothing worked. So I tried looking for serves in the Steam server browser and a few came up. I joined one and it said "Cannot connect after 4 tries." My firewall is disabled and my computer meets the requirements, so what's wrong?
same here SirSnipes. I did everything exactly as stated and still nothing. And I hate the quicklist, so I never use it
I did try Steam's server browser and when I tried to connect it said 'Connection failed after 4 tries' or something like that. And yes, I do have filters on, server not full, has players, and not password protected. Only 4 come up, bu two have a over 30 or so players, so i try and settle with those.
Are you (or somebody else on your network) running any p2p applications (bittorrent, limewire, emule, etc)? Try disabling them and trying again.
What happens when you choose "Create Server" from the main menu? Can you connect to a locally hosted server? If you have more than one computer with steam, would it be possible for you to start a server (using the above method) on one, then connect to it from the other? It SHOULD appear in the "Lan" tab of the server browser. If not, you should be able to connect through the steamfriends list, if your friend is hosting the server. This way we can determine if it is the game or your internet connection.
I can create a game, I don't have more than one computer with Steam, my LAN is disconnected anyway, I can't join through friends list or direct IP addresses either.
The point was to connect to a server on your own network segment. Connecting through the steamfriends list was just if you couldn't see it in the Lan tab of the server browser. Corndawg, I'm not sure what you mean by saying your LAN (Local Area Network) is disconnected. How are you even connected to the Internet?
I don't know what I'm saying either. I use a wireless network and my LAN cable is unplugged, so I wouldn't be able to play with people on LAN.
If its a University wireless, it might block/throttle your connection for certain applications (primarily bittorrent but it may include steam games). Can you find and connect to other steam game servers (TF2, CSS, etc)?
My Dad I guess (I'm pretty young) I can connect to TF2 and other stuff, yes. I can connect to other mods also, such as Age of Chivalry.
