For future matches, I'd be interested in somebody using the spectator demo to make a flash file or animated GIF out of the large minimap (like when you hit 'm') over time. It'd be cool to see the progress of the match high speed like a football match. If you took a screenshot every 2 minutes you'd catch the changes on the minimap and could lace them together later into a video. Sound cool?

That does sound cool. I'm gonna try it with a 1 minute record today to see how it looks.

Hmm, if you recorded a match as spec without bringing up the map, if you press M ingame when you're playing demo will the map still pop up and display everything correctly?
That would be nice cause that way you'd only need one demo to make a video of both the gameplay itself and the overview.

    Edit: it does
Which command disables chat and voice chat?

I tried running the demos from the PUG but it wouldn't run.

But if I was able to get them working, I can make a few videos.

Bass, read the PDF in this thread: http://forums.empiresmod.com/showthread.php?t=8158

It has tips to make demos work. If you load the demo while playing on an Empires server it is much more likely to work

very cool silk! make them for pug matches, people!

might be cool to include the tickets too

    Use the edit button...

I know how to play demos. I've recorded some myself and played it back without any problems.

However, when I tried playing the demos that were recorded for the first PUG match, I got an error within the console.

    Pretty derr.

That was on 2.21. You'll need a copy of 2.21 installed to play those.

Yeah that's normal. I think the first match was played on empires 2.1, not 2.2. The only way to play those demo's is to have an empires 2.1 install.

    Edit: beaten to it, aargh

    Edit:
btw the only way my method works is if someone
    1) recorded the demo as spectator
    2) moved to the edges of the map so that his spectator arrow doesn't confuse people
    3) never presses the button to open or close the map

I've tried some demo's of pug 2, but of course the people playing had to press M sometimes to select a spawnpoint. But everytime they do the map will go away in the demo for a while.

So for next match we'd need a spectator to record everything while not touching his keyboard.

That's why converting them to video is good for longevity of use

How is the 49 slot server build coming, Mootant? :D

The demo I downloaded doesn't work because I have 2.22. Does anyone have a working video? I'm trying to create something like what Silk is doing, but I need to know what actually happened in the match.

You can always hope but i don't think there is a video.
However you should be able to play the demo of the second pug match, as that one is for 2.22

Luckily, I found 2.21 in the recycle bin and reinstalled. That match looked like a lot of fun. Now I'm trying to find a demo of the BE side. If anyone has that, let me know.
