[Public Test] Empires Unbalanced Edition

    I've scheduled an Empires Steamgroup event for Saturday. The exact times are specified in the event notice (in your local time). An updated set of scripts will be available sometime before the test.

    Feel free to start discussing or wondering about it. It's unlikely you'll understand the whole concept with the two pictures but it gives a nice overview. Further explanations might follow in chunks.

    Should you want to provide in detail feedback later please do it this way:

    Weapon Name: Siege Cannon
    Problem: Overpowered like hell!
    Suggestion: Stop making scripts!

    For people that don't know, the purple weapons are wall destroyers.

    First suggestion, every weapon should have a name that tells you what the
    weapon is for. Plasma Bomb Artillery for example doesnt sound like a wall destroying weapon.

    Hope its at least a 32 slot server for testing :3

    Rail gun doesn't sound like it kills tanks but it does...

    People can learn and eventually there maybe there will be icons for it :] Coming up with 100 names for weapons isn't easy, I'm open for suggestions aslong as they don't involve animal names. Due to request the anti building weapons are semi useful against other stuff too.

    "Anti-emplacement" is a good place to start. :p

    perhaps let the comunity name some of the harder to understand names of weapons once they are tested by evryone

    anyways, thanks drag for giving new idea a shot, at last someone who cares.

    ( poor noobs won't get that tree at all :D)


    one question: are Tier 1 weapons all one slot, tier 2 2 slot and tier 3 3 slot ,or is it all mixed up?

    Did some minor testing on my own

    Weapon Name: Lethal Virus MG
    Problem: When compared to the other tier 3 3-slot MG is relatively poor. The other one can kill enemies before they even realize they were hit at long range, comparable accuracy with this will take 10 seconds to kill your target. Meanwhile the weapon is also heavier than the .50 cal.
    Suggestion: Halve damage, double effect time, increase explosion radius to 200. OR decrease weight to 50.

    @zoom: It's mixed but tier 1 is mostly 1 slot, and so on.

    Thanks, will take it under consideration, the point of the lethal virus mg is that you "tag" a large number of infantry and then... go away. They will die or be really busy healing themselves. Which is the perfect opportunity for your friend in a tank to drive over them.

    its mixed up but not that bad, you wont find 3slot weapons in t1

    you do find 2 slot weapons in t1, and 2 slot weapons in t3

    I think this new system looks REALLY cool. I'm very impressed.

    love it. seriously I keep looking through all the names and I can say that i'm monumentally excited. ahhhhh this is so cool!

    the mechanical weapon tree sucks.
    the chemistry weapon tree rocks.

    is this going to balanced by research times / costs, or am I missing something?

    This is awesome. I loved the new research tree (even with its unbalances) and the overall "new" feel of the map.

    I enjoyed the match we played but a lot of weapons are useless, like the Large Missile Rack.

    I'd prefer the current system anytime. The new one is boring.

    I like:

    New weapons. More combos possible and interesting weapons (plasma GL etc)

    I don't like:

    Complelty unbalanced weapons (some suck, some are pretty..good..)

    Quite a few weapons are out of ammo before you can kill anything

    Insane research times and costs

    Research tree scramble which results in less stratgy for the com. Putting engines and armor in own tree seems stupid as some are not going to be used and you don't have this sort of "I get this tree, then I'll have good that, ok that, bad that".
    I don't think that a certain amount of unlocks per research is bad, but these appear to be useless atm.

    Adv/Upg rpg in a different should grey-out if already researched.

    Some weapons are too specialised on one thing and useless otherwise.

    EDIT: I am sure I forgot sth I dislike, might edit later

    I think this has the potential to actually be a very balanced and workable tech-tree if you make it so that all the Armors are not in one tree and that all the engines are not either.

    yea, it has critical flaws, but the base idea is solid and i like all the new weapons even if they are as unbalanced as they are
