problems joining games

i just installed RC7-17 in order and every time i look for a game (either from steam or from within empires) i see the official server with ppl on it. when i try to connect it either stops loading and brings me to the main page or i get in the game but i get a "connection trouble" message in the top right corner and i cant join a team or spectate.

afterwards when i check the server list again there are no games on it until i restart steam, but that just starts the whole thing over again.

Sounds like a firewall issue, try loading the game, opening the console and writing
connect 75.726.776.74:27015

 

it still didnt connect, but i actually got an error message this time "connection failed after 4 retries"

but i did find this in my console before i connected:

after that last post, i kept steam open and the server was actually still on the list. when i joined i connected but got kicked out after about 15 seconds. this message was on the console.


Your .dll [bin\client.dll] differs from the server's.

doesnt that mean i didnt install RC17?

i reinstalled 17, got to server list, see official server with 34 latency, try to join, latency shoots up to 2000.

wtf.

i guess its nortan here i come.

 

The error of maplist.txt not being loaded is not important, as you can't start servers anyway.

 

I think you are missing the RC 17 hotfix.

That's different client.dll which is included with RC 17 installer. Go to the RC17 release post and find that hotfix. It is a small zip file.

 

RC18 already has the fix in it, so there's no need to get that one.

ok, i can connect now (i was just missing the RC hotfix, but with 18 out, im all good) but i have no RES files in my maps folder...

 

I think res files are only needed by the server.
