If all the armours were available to you in a game; which one would you choose to equip, and why?
Are we be or nf? Do we have a good conn or good engies? Is the team coordbminating, are we winning or losing?
I was intending this based off armour merit alone... Not situation dependent... Unless everyone always picks the best counter armour (which is doubtful...)
EDIT: now i've added a "counter" option to the poll...
But i intended for the responses to be your preferred armour... if you had a choice...
The thing is vulcanstorm, If Im be Im always going to go reflective -> NF is missile based and ml turrets do 0 damage.
If I'm NF there's 2 roads, on open maps electrical and closed maps I go absorbant.
Theres no 1 size fits it all in empires
When I saw the thread it thought "Leather Armour"
If I had to pick one armour for every map I would pick Absorbant. No armour works for every map so I'd rather have the advantage of driving a fully armed Heavy than a tank with regular weaponry and an armour that doesn't fit all maps.
I also like Heraldic Mail with Tabard.
I would pick Composite, fits my play style.
I concur. Comp is the best 'jack of all trades' armor that is useful in pretty much any scenario even if its not great in any of them.
Absorbant. I like the less weight.
If you ask me, composite armor is definitely the armor you will/should like in the end.
Now, I am not saying it's the best armor for all scenarios, like Paradox said, you get different armors under different circumstances.
But composite is the one that I think I can do my best job with, personally.
Absorbant is a viable option because it's cheap, that is however not a reason for me to like the armor, you research that "for the greater good" because you can pump out more tanks with that.
But Absorbant does not give me any special gift when I am on the field, except for bio resistance and that extra heat dissipiation which I don't need personally.
Reactive is too...plain. It's essentially the easiest armor to use because it always gives you 120 hp no matter what you do.
But that's exactly the reason why I don't like it. It doesn't matter how good you do, Reactive is always 120 hp for you.
Regen gives you 5hp/sec as long as you don't get melted, but it does not offer the "peak strength" you need when it comes to some harsh 1v1 skirmishes, you do get melted from time to time.
Deflective? Honestly I got nothing against it because I played enough World Of Tanks, I always angle my tank, it's essentially one of those "hard" armors, if you don't do anything that's just ~80 effective HP for you, but it can be up to 120+ if you use it properly.
Compo's little regeneration is why I take it over everything else, because I don't die within 5 seconds, the longer I survive, the more health I get, it offers me some(not a lot) angle modifier that I know how to use due to World Of Tanks training.
Honestly I would like Capacitive too because I trust myself with heat management, but our overheat mechanism gives you death sentence when you make a mistake.
Capacitive is very effect on escort. 4 plates/side on a BE med can survive a 9mine and 3 stickies.
I'm still not seeing any love for deflective, regenerative, or reactive...
Someone's gotta like them...
No armor is best armor, jeeps4lyfe.
I actually really really like regen, but it has a hard time staying in the fight with heavies. It's also doesn't have a fast engine right next to it and unlike the other armors it really needs one to make the most it's ability.
It would sure be nice if someone could swap the stats of bio diesel and gas turbine...
I actually agree that we can put all kinds of garbage in Mechanical, because hey, you have to get mechanical at some point.
Not saying bio diesel is garbage but I don't like it personally, but yeah, it is certainly not the best engine.
Reading this thread made me realise the research tree is illogical as fuck. Theres no greater idea behind it. The only one that does is chemistry-> high damage to building statoonary siege heavies.
What bio needs is a fast engine because bio tree would be the hit and run DOT engine. No sustained 1v1.
Physics has no thought behind it, except maybe high ranged combat. But the engine doesnt suit that since you need to be moving. So its a skirmish tree?
Electrical makes kinda sense but seems stupidly strong for nf honestly. Fast engine easy tp use armor strong weapons
Theres no bigger picture behind the research. Its individual weapons individual armors individual engines.
There wasnt a develoling idea behind making x research tree a guerilla style fighting or what ever
I see what you mean @Paradox ... The research tree doesn't make "gameplay sense". But it does make "story sense".
All the themed techs are together... Empires has little in-game lore... But the research groupings add some sense of it...
And it's good if a research tree doesn't favour a specific play style; although maybe it should?... It means that you have to explore different research trees, rather than saying "nah mate, <a research tree> is crap on this map, all we need is <other research tree>"
This stops research tree map meta... and some comms will think theyre right... And so only go down 1 path "because it's optimal for this map" rather than spreading out to obtain the optimal items
Story sense means absolutely dick shit in empires.
Everytime I see commanders researching multiple different trees before they get mediums or even heavies I just tell them they are dumb or an idiot and they should cancel.
Going into a different tree IS TIMECONSUMING and might lose you the game cause you got mediums 3-5 minutes later and heavies 5-10 minutes later.
It isnt worth it. It is absolutely not worth it to get multiple research trees just to get optimal weapons engines and armor for a certain playstyle.
( this is only in pubs, in scrims I can understand )
Right now there isnt a research tree map meta, its more of a faction based meta thats even worse...
A research tree map meta would make comms research different trees every map instead of diferent trees every faction.
Maybe it's just me commanding then... But I do pick a different research tree depending on the map... And that goes for either faction...
The faction meta isn't that bad... Its really down to people's narrow vision of what heavies are allowed to do...
I could go a different research tree every map too, but it'd just mean I would lose 10-20 procent more of my games which I dont like.
I'm not talking about what brings you the most fun, blablabla.
I'm talking about pure winning. If I want to win I will get physics every time on BE. If I want to win I'll get chem ( closed maps basicly only SOF ) or electrical everytime on NF.
I bet if we ran a simulation and you went a different research evrytime on NF and I went physica as BE everygame I'd come out winning atleast 60-75procent of the games.
wasnt the idea not to put fitting armor, engine and weapons in a tree that youd have to open more trees and get more varied research?
That might have been the idea, but it was a bad decision in my oppinion. Opening more trees and getting more varied research makes it so you get slower mediums and heavies -> you lose the game.
