Having a new problem where the entire PC locks up when a map is trying to load. I've tried all the following:

    1. Uninstall/Reinstall game
    2. Verify integrity of game cache
    3. Verify integrity of tool cache for Source SDK Base 2007
    4. Verified that HL2 is working
    5. Uninstall/Reinstall .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 with SP's and updates

Strangely, I was able to play one round of district....for some reason that map loaded, but then locked up the PC when the next map went to load. Have tried 5 or 6 times with other maps and can't get any to load, it just locks up the whole PC and I have to power down.

    Try
    async_allow_held_files 0
    async_mode 1
    async_serialize 1
    See if that helps

You can put it in the console when you start the game or in the autoexec.
Putting it in the autoexec will auto load it every time.
    should be
    "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empires\empires\cfg\autoexec.cfg"
    Or
    "C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empires\empires \cfg\autoexec.cfg"

Thanks 101010. I recently found the PC freeze outside the game. Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and found a bad memory module. After removing it, the game works fine. Apparently, the map load process is memory-intensive, so I was only seeing the fault when loading maps, and not during normal light-weight PC functions.

Do you have Internet Download Manager? If you used the advanced integration with IE then it fucks you up when the MOTD loads on pretty much every source game.

Yet another reason to dump that shitty IE-based MOTd panel and replace it with GLORIOUS AWESOMIUM
