I've got a lot of effects up in SVN at the moment and I'd like to ask a few questions from you all: 1) Do you like the ~style~ of the particles? Thick but short smoke etc. Would you like any particular changes in the style? 2) Do you have any particular weapons/effects you dislike and want changed somehow? 3) Are there any lag issues you have with any particular effects? If so what settings are you running the game at. 4) Do you like the idea of weather? (try emp_canyon in SVN) Should other maps have weather? How thick should said weather be? Do you like how weather looks? 5) Ideas for HE Cannon I just can't seem to get it right. Any other criticisms are welcome too, I'd like to get some last minute criticism if anyone is having issues, to prevent releasing problematic particles in the next patch.
I prefer more bright and sunny maps. But I can live with the rain on canyon. And for the rest of the particles I would say, that we should leave them as they are and wait for the response after playing some real matches. They are giving Empires a new and fresh look, although we still have the same old tank and building models
Snow in glycen, alpinerush, etc, would be awesome. Dustorms on dustorm? Possible to increase intensity of particles (rain/snow/sleet/dust) whilst increasing darkness of map sporadically? Happens on a cycle of ~10 minutes or so.
Would it be possible to try and emphasise it as a "shaped charge"? Maybe make the explosion look more directed @ the target, rather than a HIT style explosion. (which is designed to look like it spreads) Sort of hard to explain, but HE could appear directional: Code: \ =====> Blast particles in one direction - forwards. / whilst the HIT, and most non-shaped explosives would look more like (in my crappy drawing): Code: \ | / <=> Blast particles directed everywhere. / | \
Perhaps but that would need some code put in place to rotate effects. As for snow on glycen, it's already there mug:
I think emp_silo has a weather change effect. But does look a little bit strange, because the change happens suddenly and not smooth. But don't make any effects, which makes maps darker. The only result will be, that people change the brightness of their monitor. And I don't want to adjust the brightness while playing.
I'm talking about like shade and stuff. Right now, Dustorm only gets briget. Give it some shade, dust particlz, and cycle it.
Well, high explosives dont really look all that fiery, mostly low explosives do that. Ya can look at a specific mythbusters episode in which they blew up a car normally and hollywood style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFXw0cDC-A4 Some dx9 air refraction would be nice i guess, and then toss in a dx8 version for those who dont have dx9.
Oh that's just great. I guess my faulty (and almost fried) 8400GS won't run your pretty particles as good looking as it should be.
Last I checked, mortar was an instant smoke screen, which is fairly gay. I also agree with SIP, sunny maps are nicer, so I dislike the new canyon. I preferred the 1.07 pictures (or whatever, when it had pylons) that I saw when it was REALLY sunny. Dark maps are fucking miserable. It also lacks water in the pits (I know, not your department) which looks stupid when it's raining. Idk, I honestly don't like a lot of the new effects because you're pretty anal about the effect matching the blast radius, and that gets pretty stupid. It's going to get really fucking stupid if we have 20 nukes going off in a pub game. Most of them are fine with our tester games of 10v10 or 15v15 but I just think with 32v32 it's going to get ridiculous. They look nice, extravagant, but just impractical. Maybe I'm being over the top about it, but we'll see once 2.25 is released.
