Empires is a game that combines the free will of fps and adds elements of a real-time strategy game.

With this said, not everything in the game will do as you expect it. I know surprising isn't it? Games are meant to be fun. If you don't like someone or something, you don't "have" to do anything about it. I'm not saying to ignore it either. Just realize 85% of your actions that include lessening the fun in the other player's perspective will have consequences. Pissing off other players will not turn this into a regular chess game. Some people go straight for the queen, some people want to obliterate all the pawns with their mighty knights, and some people want to break down a mighty castle.

Part of being a good team player is coming about with good charisma. Offer negotiations. "Hey, if you build res nodes I'll get artillery asap." Doesn't that honestly sound better than, "HEY YOU @!#@!#*&$ @!#! BE AN ENGINEER YOU @#*@#& @#*!@1!!1!one!1!!" This is often times followed by a long argument lasting the period of the whole game. Guess what, some people don't want to lose 10 IQ just from reading all those childish comments. Also know what you're asking for. Honestly, telling someone to change class just because it's commander preferred at the beginning of the game is just rude. So what if you have 0 engineers at the beginning of the game. That doesn't mean that nothing will get done. Work with what you have and play the game. This goes for the players especially. Don't expect a commander to have already researched artillery when he's constantly asking for his radar to be built back at main base.

Also know that, teamwork is not necessary for wins. Often times, one skilled player with a light tank can take out a whole army or often times a whole base. If they're that person, don't give them hell. Honestly, you're not making yourself look good and if you rally enough support against said player, WE ALL LOSE HIM/HER FROM THE COMMUNITY(I like having pro's on my team). If someone is wasting tanks kindly ask the commander to restrict vehicle construction and go kill the other team.

 Man I'm proud of what I wrote up there. Discuss?

The title of the thread is a bit misleading - I thought you might offer points as to how we could make Empires more RTS'y.

Anyway, in regards to the points you make about the difference between a straight RTS and Empires (RTS/FPS) - you're right. A commander in Empires needs to be as competent a communicator as he is a strategist. I'm a pretty shitty commander, and back when I was commanding quite a bit, via good communication and dealing with my team we stood a good chance against the other team simply because morale was higher.

i remeber posting somthing like this ages ago on the old forums, but in another form

like, the bots living in expensive apartments who are living well etc woud be friendly to the imperials, as their viwe on society is better for them, while the less ritch people living on the streets woud like the northern faction more (and in both cases offer them forms of healthpacks and things to make them usefull enough to defend)

i like the whole entire town concept to, that woud really be messy if you accidently artied two three npc's in some spot and then tried to move through that town with everyone going pissed of at you :D
