I was looking around shops, and I was completely dumbfounded to see they wanted an already completed one for about $2200, so I built my own.

    Processor : AMD Phenom II X4 955 : $155

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...103808&Tpk=amd phenom ii x4 955 black edition

    Motherboard : ASUS M4 A88TD-M : $128

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&AID=10446076&PID=4013997&SID=skim3054X598607

    Graphics Card : NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 460 : $220

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...re=GEForce_GTX_460_1gb-_-14-130-566-_-Product

    RAM : Kingston HyperX 4GB *2 2GB sticks* $104

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&AID=10446076&PID=4013997&SID=skim3054X598607

    Storage / Hard-Drive : Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB : $88

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284

DVD Drive : Sony Optiarc DVD Drive : $27

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Sony_optiarc_DVD_drive-_-27-131-061-_-Product

    Sound Card : Creative Sound Blaster X-FI 7.1 : $48

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Sound_blaster_x-fi_7.1-_-29-102-027-_-Product

    Power Supply : Corsair CMPSU 650 TX : $92

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005&Tpk=Corsair TX 650

    OS : Windows 7 Premium Home : $112

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Windows_7_home_premium-_-32-116-754-_-Product

    Total : $974

    $1200 in savings.

Ill have it ready in about a week, I need to wait for newegg to ship to me, then I have to find a PC store that will assemble it for me *at a cost*

"But Axeman, why don't you assemble it yourself?"

Because I am blind in one eye and double joined in the thumbs, I didn't even like assembling legos as a kid, let alone sensitive computer parts.

I will buy a new monitor later, Ill stick with my flat screen 15 inch ATM, but will upgrade later, unless I can find someone to sell this to or the PC shop offers a decent price.

Bad choices...you should have gotten a single hd5850 or 5770 and xfired later. It's. Hard to open links, but an 880-m for $120 is stupid when a 790gx can be had for $90. ALSO, ATI's newest cards are coming out within the next two months. You're stuck with that level of performance now, with no option of crossfiring.

Nevermind, you made REALLY bad choices. The 768mb gtx460 sucks and is akin to an hd5830 which is $190. Gf $900.

I can't afford their newest cards ever anyway, besides I get over $60 in mail- in rebate.

Also from what I could tell the 790 gx had problems with my RAM sticks that I already had in hand and also had problems with fans that I already have that can be installed on the PC, so I went for the 880.

You appear to be right about the video cards though, I can change that though, thanks for the catch.

I looked at the mobo and it's 16x/4x which isn't too bad. An hd5770 crossfire would have been better though. Like I said though, you're stuck at this level of performance.

If you have the opportunity, switch to a single hd5850. It's only $60 more, and is better in every possible way. You can then add another one in a year for a big boost in performance.

Well I was on a budget, also all orders are clocked from newegg at interval, so I did pretty well as opposed to buying pre-packaged.

Did research on the graphics card, because I believe in facts.

Slightly better for my graphics card, and a bit more expensive, but ehh...

Because sli works on an AMD chipset without hacking it, which very rarely works.

Seems expensive for what you got. Motherboards that will be able to crossfire are usually expensive enough not to make it worth it. Better off taking the money a new card would cost and motherboard money and buy another computer a bit later on. I got one last year for 750ish CAD.

q6600 with g0 stepping overclocked to 3.0 easily on air.
    4870
4 gigs ram with good timing
    soundcard I'll reuse
1tb HD i'll reuse likely as slave and get SSD for master on next comp

Another year or so I'll buy another set of parts and mostly rebuild for another 750 or so and for a total price of 1500 I'll have a computer that runs new stuff well for like 4-5 years.

    Cool beans.

The only thing I can re-use is my screen and case, this PC is so old that you can replace it inside of yo momma jokes.

Is it even worth upgrading now?

I still have my (I think) 3 year old with e8400 and 280gtx and it plays everything on high just fine (except for empires and dwarffortress)

Can't wait to see how hard next crysis will beat pc's this time.

    Overpriced Graphics card.
    its a 768 GTX460 for 220.
    Price should be 200.
Better to get a different brand or a 5830.

Also its a 16x/4x Even if it was intel, it wouldn;t Sli.
