Ok I've just learned how to make good tiling textures for things like dirt, mud and grass (still learning with things like brick) would anyone be interested in a texture pack? I figured a pack like this would be a good thing for empires. Just tell me the sort of things you want to see and ill go off on a hunt with the camera to snap some pictures. Once I have some i'll post them here to see how you would discribe them (for the purposes of file naming) then i'll tile and pack them. I'll get the ball rolling with this - In your post just tell me * some words that you think would be suitable in a file name for easy searching e.g. soil pebble * if you want more stuff like that just posted * what else you want
you are strong, very strong. maybe a grass texture if you got a fresh lawn nearby. an asphalt texture wouldnt go amiss I dont think if the road outside your house looks decent. maybe you could make different varietys of the texture as well with stripes through it and other road markings.
If you make a texture pack, would you mind if I packaged it with the game officially? Naturally, you'd get credit for the textures you make.
Yeah that would be great. I'll go out on a hunt tommorow to make some. Here is a test of the one from the first post in game (the first one i have ever made) lawn and concrete should be no problem.
Empires needs good concrete, generic building wall and industrial metal textures that dont lool like source game ones. It uses the standart hl2 and thats what it makes look like a hl2 rip off instead of a mod.
I'll see what I can do but i am still learning and currently I cannot make anything with patterns very well e.g. brick or paving slabs. Gots my lawn into source look good?
I have cement in my backyard, do you want me to take a picture of that? how about my swimming pool for the water textures?
Sending me pictures could work but you have to remember that not all pictures are suitable for making a good tiling texture. Here is a concrete texture i made, it's 1024 * 1024.All the others i made were 512 * 512 and i can't really tell the differance in quality
If you guys need indoor textures, I can take some hi res shots of my floors. Got wood tile, fake (still looks damn good) marble tile, and small white bathroom tile. I also have a badly painted concrete balcony. Would that be of any use?
I'm more interested in getting snaps of things from the outside - some good rock textures would be real nice. I really do get sick of the standard halflife ones that scatter every cliff on every map. But by all means get what you can and if i think it's worth the effort i'll convet it.
512x512 sucks for empires cause you paint large areas with one texture and you cant scale it so it becomes very repetitve. Also a very nice methode to get awesome nature (rock, grass etc) textures for large scale games like empires is to use the texture as a random defuse, color and noise texture and the detail texture for the actual content. You can improve that effect further with a good normalmap.
