Launch SDK Base 2007 and runits test.
Verify Source SDK Base 2007 and Empires game files.

Orrrr refer to the thread made by vipervicki that is right next to this one.

    Thank, Destroyer.
I tried Viper's fix before but it didn't work but I just did it again and I guess removing the GCF's from the file helps... Meh. Now new problem -

My video settings won't save when I close and open the game. Same with audio. No settings change when I restart the game. Any idea? You think it's the GCF's that are configured in such a way that it sets them like that?

GCF files only contain stuff like models and textures - I think. I'm not an expert here, if somebody else spoke up it would be nice.

Maybe it was explained somewhere i nthis forum but I can't remember a specific thread.

Hmmm. In the 'empires/cfg' folder, there are a few configuration files. Check if those are set to read-only?

And try command host_writeconfig (or something like that)
    And see what it says.

gfc is valves archive format for source games. gfc scape is a nice gui tool to work with them.

Yeah but the Empires GCFs are totally empty, I don't know why it still insists on creating 4gb of empty files. They're not used any more.

Probably an old version. If you delete them, it'll recreate empty GCFs of exactly the same size. Use GCFscape to take a look inside.

actually... moving them out and then doing a verify did not create empty ones... in fact verify didn't do anything. I tried to run the game but it gave me the mount app file system error. Put my full GCF's back in and empire starts up. Perhaps if I did a complete reinstall of empires I would get the same things as you guys.

    hmm.. I will do it.
This might actually help my launcher program issue as well.

yaye... now my empires is installed in common and its fucked. All I get is MountAppFileSystem Error.

    edit:
correction placing my old GCFs(the ones that actually have empires in them) in the steamapps dir makes empires work. The install of empires did not create any GCFs.

I had the same error, deleted the game before I had the smarts to come here first.

Reinstalling, will report if it works.

It didn't, however, VICKI's fix worked for me.

It played fine for 1 day, now I get a mount app error again, but this time the explanation is something like "no default app location" or something

Forgot to say that the 2nd error that I got was easily fixed by deleting the Client blob file
