been busy building mechs for a commisioned job from a man who saw my stuff on the forums, thanks guys couldnt of been noticed without you. anyway heres what ive been working on if nf had mechs this is what i imagine
Three hundred dollars for that? Everyone on my university character modelling course has made better stuff than that, if the world is full of people who will pay three hundred dollars for a robotic model why the hell am I doing a degree?
It's looks pretty cool, but it could use some more light, the top half is barely visible. I've heard a skilled modeler can make upto 300-400k a year, can anyone confirm this?
Fuck no they can't. Maybe 30-40k £ at the higher end. You can go up to 60 apparently as a designer or some other role which can't be outsourced as easily as art can, but not hundreds of thousands a year. 300 thousand a year... Jesus Christ.
Oh wait I'm thinking in kroner (swedish currency) here, of course it should be 30-40k. How embarrasing.
It's not your fault everyone automatically, and incorrectly, assumes what currency your talking about.
well everyone on your course has had training obviously, im 16 and learning this by myself, im pretty pleased
hes always compared me to the people in his university nom matter how many times i tell him im 16 and self taught, ive just accepted it
It's not a terrible model but what I meant was I don't see why you'd pay someone 300$ to make it when you could get better for much less if you paid some student somewhere to do it, or even just used one of the many freelance modellers available. It's not good value for money.
I guess it was easier to find Sir Snipes from here than some student from somewhere where you wouldn't ever look at.
well he came to me, so it must be what he wanted btw chris since your doing a course in this i figure you may be able to enlighten me, how do you rig hydrolics. i cant seem to get any resources on it, im trying to rig hydrollics into the models
It looks good, especially considering I can't model for shit. Ha. The only problem I can see here is that your robot will be incapable of changing the direction it faces. That is, it can't turn around. The legs on your robot are only capable of 2-d movement. Also if you want to learn more about hydraulic displays, you might as well start with how they look on contemporary machinery: look at construction equipment like front end loaders, or especially in your case, an excavator. Also, Youtube is an excellent means by which you can see how things work. I'm mostly just a minor enthusiast so far mechanical design is concerned, but I never go into something without understanding it on the surface.
Chris, freelance modellers can't secure a solid income because there are always people willing to work for less and produce higher quality models. Before I started my course last september one of the lecturers said : "So what if you can model an AK47 perfectly - I can get a guy in china to do it at half the price you're offering". Which is why I'm now studying C++ instead of Maya :p Anyway nice job sirsnipes, it's always a nice feeling when something you work hard on pays off (literally in this case).
How does it move, it appears to have severly limited joint movment? And two gattlings for roughly 100-150 rounds of ammo tops? Where is the pilot supposed to be?
its a robotic drone that was his concept art not mine( im guesing theres meant to be a ammo box, and guys i will animate him and show yall how he turns and shit
