well It seems Blizzerd wont be able to work on any ruins for a little bit so I've been toying around with it a lil bit. Heres some screen, I know there are some bizzare shadow issuses and I know what makes them I simply wanted to compile it quickly and take some screens for you guys before I hit the sack. I talked to blizzerd and he suggested trying to lost coast monastery texture for ruins, so heres a run of it. I've also added a few ruined platforms around to create height variation for more interesting infantry combat, I kept the platforms away from anywhere that would really interfere with current build locations. this isnt final here obviously, rough draftish to get a feel for it. And without further ado.....
I can't decide which ruins I like more. I think I only like keefs because they're nearer to the current ruins, blizzards look better. I have this feeling (from just being used to the old ones) that they're out of place, but i'm sure i'd get used to them.

If you use Lost Coast textures, Empires needs to mount the content, or you need to (illegally) include the textures with the mod.
Nah, they shouldn't need to be included in Empires' content. An alpha version of Tropic Vendetta had a bunch of rock models from Lost Coast, and we didn't have to include them in the .res or pakrat them, and everyone who played it had them. They were later replaced with our current rocks though, as it turns out their collision models only work in single-player, so you could drive/walk/build inside of them.
So either that content isn't included with only LC anymore, or people without LC installed didn't complain. I don't believe I have LC installed, and I could see it all fine, so maybe that stuff is now with HL2 or one of the Episodes.
omni is correct, it is all included in the SDK, just like you can use HL2 textures without HL2 installed you can USE lostcoast without it installed. remember these ruins pics arent final, I made them mostly to see how the rubble height variations would work out. I would really like to see some pillars like blizzerds pic in there though.
Dont get me wrong I like all the custom textures you use on duststorm but atm those textures have almost (at least on the pictures) the same color. Maybee a little bit more constrast, like making the ruins and rock texture a bit darker?
i chose lost cost because it doesnt need to be added in, new textures can be added but lost coast is very nice and already in it
hes busy atm, I was just putting in ideas of my own I've allready discussed with him, aka the 'balconies' or raised platforms to add variation to the combat.
