Making 16x maps

    I was wondering if it was possible to start making the 16x maps for airplanes in hammer now. I had a couple ideas about making a map with bunkers and towns for a while, but the current size map doesn't seem big enough to fit everything.

    Considering that I'm a noob mapper and it takes other people months to finish maps at the current size, I figure at 16x if I start now by the time airplanes comes out it'll be close to finish.

    Yes it is possible now. The maps aren't actually 16x bigger, but the players/buildings/etc will be 16x smaller.

    aklansman is right, all you have to do is make everything 16x smaller than you normally would. If you know how to use 3D skyboxes, you could use that to scale everything up in-game, just to give some impression of size. It wouldn't have any collisions though, so it'd only be good for noclipping.

    If you don't know how to use them, look up a tutorial.

    Just a thought when they make every thing smaller will they also be making simpler models or will they still use the same models? If there making simpler ones they could also use them for the lower poly models in the reguler maps for people with not very good gcards....

    another thing... with the x16 map are the devs planning to make a plug-in for hammer so that you can add more grids than you currently can?

    because this would make x16 mapping one hell of a lot easyer

    We can't really modify Hammer. You can design stuff at larger grid sizes and then shrink them down. All of the same models are used. They're just smaller.

    are you plaaning on making a exturnal apliction for this or have you already found one?

    oh and why not just have all maps at x16? just compleatly scrap normal maps will mean you can find bugs with this quicker as well.

    will we have to use a new entity so that the game knows its a x16 map? or do we have to manually schrink for ex. VF and CV?

    You modify emp_params to set the scale. Scaling of models is automatic.

    Hmmm If people found their way through the geometry of the maps at current scale... imagine x16 O.o

    1 :p and the new ones will be 16 times bigger, so if you play a current map at 16 scale, imagine yourself shrinking 16 times smaller...

    16x16 isn't 16 times bigger... A mere 4:1 scale would be 16 times bigger. Imagine a little country :D

    Imagine a bug that allows arty to shoot as far as normally :P. (range x 16 would be right)

    Art with the range of actual art lol. Damn that would be interesting... Hell keep all weapon physics the same would be cool at that scale. No more shells falling out of the end of the barrels lol. Missile speeds may need to be tweeked though.

    -increasing measuments by 1 increases volome by ummm 8 i think = ]
