I don't find having to use 3ds max true at all. I think it depends on the circumstance. If I was modeling as a hobbyist, or indie developer I have a lot more choices of software I can use. But if I was looking to make this my career(or work for a major studio) I would specialize in one program, and that would be the mainstream one (3ds max/Maya). I think the Blender Foundation did a really good job at listening to the complaints of new users, and the community, and streamlined the modeling process a lot. Will it ever replace Max as the number one choice, probably not.
PLAN FOR TOMORROW: working further on the Stingray (maybe be able to finish the model in a texturisable state) starting a new model i thought i could try myself out and try to make some nice new shotgun models since we wanted some otherwise Elitist asked me if i wanna make the NF airfac im posting this here so you guys can think about it and suggest which one is needed more so i can get my hand on some inspiration
We don't really want a shotgun. It's very low, low priority if we even want to add it to the game as pistol replacement. You can do several models at the same time and switch to next one when you can't stand looking at the same one.
i asume you want me to do the airfac then if there exists any artwork of it i would be thankfull to see it
I can give you all of the stuff I created, also the artwork Vessboy gave me, for concepts for the AF, I don't want credit, do with them what you want. Vessboy I sense was kinda fed up with the community as I am at this point, so I don't know if he wants credit if you use his designs. I would give you the textures i created, but I plan on using them on another fps project I'm working on, so you will need to reapply the textures.
Actually, you would. Because people would dive for the badass aircraft, tanks would probably still be pretty dangerous and survivable compared. You'd get a whole bunch of really damn effective players using the tanks and generally wreaking havoc across the map.
Besides, aircraft will cost a lot more the your average tank, so you can only build them in late game.
these things have not been made up yet, if you want to debate about it i guess make a new thread but please not here also take in account that aircraft will include a light anti air vehicle, a medium sized gunship and a big transporter no matter what they wont have identical health
well debating about it without a model is pointless unless we want the modeler to take that into account. If it looks armored it should have more health. If it flies it should have less health. Kinda law of nature thing.

yippiyayeah NET IS BACK so ive done smoothing groups and deleted some not visible polys => leads to less than 8,300
all i want to add to this is: i think im gonna look after some texturing tuts tomorrow and dig out photoshop once again starting to make a new texture with alpha for it
uhm tomorrow maybe i mean its not difficult to convert it to source accepable models but i dont know if and how you get it in there //i just realised that i didnt seperated the moveable parts yet so you would have a untextured and not animated one
That's no problem. I've always wanted to see Empires be remade with placeholders. (I'd imagine it would streamline a lot of development issues.)
