For the next Fortress I'll try to get a dragon in a crystal glass terrarium filled with water and undead carp. Now THAT would add insult to injury.
I forgot how insane this game gets...I gotta take the time to learn to play it properly. So many games, so little time. I think I'll have to put it on my memory stick and play it at college when I'm supposed to be studying.
Well the thread starter seemed to have lost interest. Maybe if I find a pleasing world/embark location I'll start a succession game. Or one could play a "versus" game where all people have to start with the same embark location but are free to take whatever equipment they want. After every year or so the "hard stats" of the fortresses can be compared, like wealth, population or foodstores. As for embark location my last one was in a freezing haunted tundra. To my surprise it was not freezing enough as in summer the ice melted for a brief period of time --> It was easy enough to get water together and there were lots of valuable resources + farming was possible. The location before that was more unforgiving as it was near a glacier with always freezing temperatures and only a frozen brook on the map. Pretty tough as you have no water in the beginning (but I think there was an underground pool on that map, if that isn't frozen too) This location was haunted too but everything went okay for atleast one season, partly due to it being so cold that nothing lives. I wonder where the undead did hide afterall.
to continue my conversation with empty: either on the wiki or on the DF forums, someone said how they build aquariums then flooded that room with carp infested waters. once an animal is in a cage it can be trained, so he trained up some warcarp!!! i dont know if undead can be trained though.
Not all animals can be trained, they can become PETS if they have the "PET:EXOTIC" tag. Only dogs can be trained in the vanilla game. One guy modded the game to get War Cats: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=24056.0 EDIT: Oh my. http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=24056.msg270524#msg270524
i just went and looked at the forums, the guy had to mod in a "trainable" tag to the tarp before he could get warcarp. but carp can be tamed by default, so have 37 or 4/7 water filled with tame carp as a mote with no drawbridge.
im too lazy to search, but hit google to look for a tutorial on the DF wiki or search the forums for my DF thread; a few pages in has a link to the tutorial.
We should engage in creating some kind of epic monument thing. Nothing complex, like power or that, just a sculpture.
how about a map of empires, like district... (a tribute to the map we all love the most, no? ) in relief carved from a mountain
We'll make cyclopean down the the finest detail. 'But empty, it uses displacemetns, and dwarf fortress uses cubes!' I DONT CARE. FIND ME A SOLUTION
i have successfully captured and trained a dragon, any suggestions what to do with it? (its too distructive to use as base defence, toasting own soldiers close to it accidentally etc) edit: i put it in my dungeon on a silver chain, it gets golblin fed unless you guys come up with something better
