Turrets are meant to keep people out; if any one person could just bash through them they wouldn't really serve any purpose... that's the nature of teamwork, you hove to do it with a group of people to succeed. and that's what makes this game so good. and ninjas so bad.
Get steam to post news about it? That'd proabably work mostly by itself. Maybe get fileplanet and other file hosting sites/gaming sites to put up a news blurb?
that would work too :D bigger turrets for defence instead of just those hordes of small turrets? Sounds alot funner, you'd have to actually mount an assault against it instead of feeling like the turrets are mounting an immobile assault against you.
If the turrets had bigger profiles, then they wouldn't be much of a problem, they would be easier to hit and spot... I suggest that turrets remain as a skill only to an engineer, and the commander would get "Sentry Towers" that act as bigger, slightly stronger, more expensive, turrets of today...
The problem with turrets is there range is fine but at a certain point you need, I mean NEED tanks to take down turrets. That also stops infantry into fighting since they die without tanks. That is there main problems with turrets.
lots of smaller turrets allows you to choose the defence you want; only a little bit, or quite a lot. I agree it is irritating to have to kill them, but that's kinda the point.

We could put our ideas together and get something done, doncha think? Turrets to me are alot more annoying than unfair teams. I agree turrets wouldnt be as bad if they were only buildable by engineers, and perhaps they could create bigger turrets by the com, but make them only human operated. That way they could act as a siege unit once you get fortified near the enemy base and use it to siege them more effectevly (and mabye even cut down the time where its just one team holed up and constantly spawning).
I'ma wait till the new prices in the next version ... Even though I suspect that this'll only mean the winning side can build a better defence, making comebacks even harder =o
At this point, I guess this is not a matter of fixing smaller issues like weapon or team balance, even I'd say there is no need for new features because this is one of the FPS with bigger feature set I've ever seen. In fact, that could be even a problem. The commander game mode is great for clans, but it's hardly playable on public servers, that's a fact. Maybe you could find a game with two decent comms sometimes, but that was not common. And then, large maps, a slow start, everyone walking... It's not the funniest thing. I really think we need medium size maps so people can fight almost inmediately and there aren't needed 20 players to find someone to kill. Maps focused on infantry and vehicular combat (downgrading turrets role), where all classes can be useful and no one rules over the other classes. Maps which aren't boring because linearity, relegating gameplay to turret placement and nade spamming. So that's my proposal, in fact I made one of those maps (an alpha actually), but these aren't good times, most people is looking at other mods now.
Personally, the turrets do piss me off, but the lack of variety in gameplay/maps has turned me off. Aircraft will revitalize me, but it will stop when UT2K7/Supreme Commander/Hellgate: London/Spore/BF2142/Quake Wars comes out, or i buy company of heroes.
Wow, reading all of those posts just fires me up to work on Empires [/sarcasim] We're doing the best we can, Krenzo is going to post an update soon about all of the stuff we have comeing out in the next couple of patches (Wich is alot). Im hoping we can get 1.8 out once the wep animations are done and then the aircraft soon after that (almost all of the coding for air is done, just have to get the models in game). Like R_yell said, we have a huge project here and, aside from the mappers, its just Krenz with the code and me and Duke working on models/art. If we just had one more modeler who could help get stuff in game and perhaps another coder to help Krenz we could fly along. Be patient, we're doing the best we can. I wish I could really help with modelling, but I just started modelling for hl2, infact I learned proper normal mapping only 2 days ago but if its vehicles or non organic things, with good reference I could definitly model it, right now I promised Grizzly to make some props for his maps, so I'll finish those first before talking about new things to model
I've made it my mission to go about mods and game and stuff under "Emp_recruit" and kill people with said game's default name. I hope to be adding more to the sig in the future ps. Don't get us wrong, we're just trying to figure out what would help the game along besides, most of what's said has been talked (complained) about countless times before
I don't know about turrets. In smaller games, 2vs1 the one needs turrets and turrets shouldn't need to be manned. They mainly need to be hurt by infantry realy.
no, they need to be either nerfed or powered up. Atm, all they server to do is slaughter infantry. Nerf them, so you need 3 to kill a target, or power them up, so it costs bitchin' loads of money, but they are deadly good.
