I am suspicious of Patton at the moment. If anyone in this thread it trying to spread confusion and lead us down the garden path, it's him. See:

Kane points out the two obvious clues in the text, towards complete and cloud. He votes for one of them. that's completely fair.

Cpatton writes:

Cloud announcing that he's the gren means nothing to me, actually it means anything but that he's the gren. any gren wouldn't post in the thread that he's the gren, that's suicide, obviously. at best it's a double bluff and cloud is the gren, but I doubt that.

now what's REALLY suspicious is that patton will have known that cloud obviously isn't going to announce that he's the gren in the thread, but acts as if cloud's claim that he's the gren is totally valid. So he's (probably) lying.

If there's one thing that patton isn't, it's obvious.

and yes, of the two clues, cloudy night was as good a clue as complete darkness. I had as much a clue about which of them was an infil as you guys, and I still expect cloud might be one.

now:

melaron was a good player, he was trying to organise the scouts. He was going to get picked off, it was only a matter of time. Frankly I'm surprised that he lasted as long as he did, the infiltrators should have killed him in the first night. If he'd sorted his shit out, then we'd have the scouts in the right hands and gg'd really soon.

I was in the process of trying to do melaron's job after he would obviously be killed for being a useful, active basecrew.

I trust you because I trust your plan. it's logical. I think metal smith simply doesn't understand, there's no way an infil would attract that much attention to himself

the problem is your plan. it's not faultless, but could be very powerful.

firstly, infils could PM you telling you that they are the scout. it narrow's down who the infiltrators are, but that doesn't matter. you can't release a list of who the possible infiltrators are without giving out the names of the scouts. the infiltrators will realise this. The infiltrators will also realise that you are smart and organised: You are going to get hit tonight, believe me. Then your plan counts for nothing.

This is where I come in. I will continue your plan in your absence, covertly, so that I do not get hit. Obviously, i could be an infil too, which means I need one of the scouts to scout me the second night. We don't know how many infiltrators or scouts there are, and if you told an infiltrator to scout me then it wouldn't prove i wasn't an infiltrator. we need a way that everyone who contacts you contacts me (without revealing themselves, lest i be an infiltrator), and a way i can prove that I'm not an infil.

here's a plan that might work, but it's a bit of a gamble. You tell everyone that alleges to be a scout to you: in the second night, half are going to scout me, and half someone else random. They are all to report back to one position, possibly an IRC room (don't tell me what), at a specific time, where they will use pseudonyms instead of their normal names. They can't report to you, because you will be dead. here they will report who they were meant to scout and what result they got of it. If two people disagree, then one of them is an infiltrator. Hopefully this will scare the infiltrators into giving correct information at this IRC room meeting. Then, when everyone has agreed that I am not an infiltrator, the message which tells me who all the potential scouts are can be sent to me.

the only way this can fail is that the scouts that are to scout me are all infiltrators, in which case they will proclaim me as an infiltrator and I will not get the message. On the other hand, they may proclaim me as an infiltrator because I am infiltrator. either way, I won't get the message.

the message will be as follows:
it will simply be the names of the potential scouts
e.g: sandbag melarion
turn this into numbers, a=1, etc
add 3 to each digit EXCEPT for the first and last digits, (remember 7-> 0, 8 -> 1, 9 -> 2)

so you have a message that looks like
350345 423494

now you distribute this to all of the scouts, but so that each scout only gets a small chunk. what we're going to do is that if there are 5 scouts, one scout gets the first, 6th, 11th, 16th digits, one scout the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th digits (including spaces as digits) Each message that they send me will have a letter at the start, like "A" for the first guy, "B" for the second guy. This is so i can put the message back together at the end if I get all of the chunks. Then, all of the scouts will give me their chunks after it is agreed that i am not an infil in the IRC room.

Tell the potential scouts as little as possible. tell them that they are to pass the code on to both me and the other guy that you get the other half of the scouts to scout, and say that each of us is passing the message on. This should stop any infiltrators among the potential scouts from simply eliminating me the next night, which is what would happen if you simply told the scouts that they need to give me a message.
