I am wondering about server hosting and which route I would go if I wanted to be able to switch which mod the server is running quickly. also are there any companies that use windows servers? a lot of mods only have windows dedicated server, so a hosting company that has both is everything I need.
just get yourself a _root server_ that is real hardware running in a data center. You may need a genuine windows key.
Hosting where you buy it off a site with "slots" isn't capable of running Empires. Nothing short of a very expensive dedicated server, on Windows server 2003/2008 R2 and with a pretty good bandwidth line, is worth even trying.
I hate to say it, but you can run empires on a cheap Vserver, as long as you are okay with max 14 people and weird performance problems from time to time.
