So, if it's a fact that before this law went into practice, which it didn't, ISPS still didnt sell your data and everyone is preaching at you that they are now going to sell your data 100%, that isn't a lie I should call out? Everyone has been hyping this up as "THEY ARE 100% GOING TO SELL YOUR DATA OMG EVERYONE BE SO OUTRAGED!" even though they didn't before it was even up for consideration.

Edit: Even comcast is saying they won't sell your data. Comcast. One of the shittiest American ISPS.

Do I still think there should be a law to prevent this? Yes and this "law" being repealed is a step backwards I think.

Fuck off dude. Stop trying to create arguments where one isn't.

but you also should ask yourself, would they sell it if there wouldnt be this "media hype" as you call it? if everyone just shuts up about it and thinks "well they may or may not have sold it in the past" (how you even know?), there would be less reasons for ISPs not to sell it.
now it has been brought to public attention and people start to discuss and form opinions on the matter, ISPs will ask themselfs, "if i sell and my competitors dont, will it affect how many customers i have?" tho ofc quasi-monopolies might play into that, it might be less of an issue for companies in rural regions where you basically only have a single ISP available.
