Perhaps only for BE, I wouldn't imagine NF could afford so much engineering for a mine.

because it involves huge amounts of AI coding?

In Company of Heroes they would randomly show up and blow up your tanks.

You just need more tanks to take them down quicklier but to the point now.

I don't think those would be so good idea because even those would be AI'ed and not player controlled at all those would of course heard slowly more and more towards vehicle factory because all the targets come from there eventually.

So finally it may go to this: build a tank, watch how it blows up in its place and you die. Let's wait the tank to disappear. New tank built, it drives out of the factory and blows up again right in front of the factory.

    Hrm...

I'm in favor of having remote controlled drones and unmanned scouts but there should be a limitation on what they can do.

In Tribes, there was a small community for a mod called 'Combat.' It was a pretty standard mod for most tribes standards, with more real weapon names but not real weapon effects. One of the fun features of the mod, though, was a set of unmanned, remote drones you could set then fly around. The four drones (all of which were flying drones, as was the nature of tribes) were:
    Scout/Cam Bot
highspeed and good handling and turn radius. Unarmed. low health

    Base Guard
Slow Speed, excellent handling for managing the corners of a tight base. Machine gun armed (moderate damage comapired to the standard machine gun a player could have). Moderate Health

    Open Air Guard
Fast but bad handling, good for tracking targets in the open. Long range but light damage machine gun (was alot more accurate than the base guard's machine gun, but noticeable less damage). Moderate Life

    Remote Bomb
I don't think I need to bother describing this one because well, it wasn't that fun to play... it was pretty much a guided missile you could stop in mid air, fly into a base, and blow up people as they spawned... was very lame and annoying to play against.

As I said, I liked the idea of unmanned remote scouts and weak attack combat drones, but those that just fly out and go boom may be fun for the attacker, but they are really not fun for the defender. That's something that matters with game balance after all. Not how fun it is to use something, but how fun is it to play against too.

no, i agree with null operations: sure it would be fun if one player spawned with a railgun that could shoot though walls, but it would just make everyone else feel bad.

come on Mr Weedy, you do have a put someone down in your sig. it's not that great a quote.

edit: haha, wait, is this meant to be dirty...

Some possible ideas to offset the negatives:

    - timer for explosion, with a big beeper, so it is hard to kill people with it, and is easy to find (in relation to if it could hide somewhere and not be seen.)

    - Limited range, so it would only be able to be used defensivley

    - No camera, has to be operated using vision only

    - Same as above, but using map

    - Has to be detonated manually

I don't like the idea - Comm: Every1 were gonna mine spam.
Cue three VFs at some point churning out little buggers which a never ending line of chugs their way into the enemy base. Even if it has a beeper you can hardly pack up the base and move off - and it would still follow you.

It wouldn't be invincible. In fact, why would you pack up the base? Turrets could shoot them, they wouldn't be that powerful and they couldn't come in a never ending line as they have to be bought, if everyone is piloting these things, then you can cut then off at the source.

I would imagine to make those things balanced; a good clip of machine gun fire should make them go boom... But if they manage to sneak in... fair enough...

Wasn't there a discussion about remote drones that would build stuff? Sort of like those manhax...
